Just one of those Indiana Garter Days...

This is the 3rd I saw today, but only the second one I grabbed up. The first one was quite large compared to what I have been seeing around here...all of about 3.5ft long and about as big around in the middle to take a small adult mouse! That's a pretty big Garter for around here. No pics of the first one, but here are some of the second one, the little guy that I found. Both in the same spot. I have a creek running right through my back yard, and they love it around here.

Don't make fun of my wussy gloves...the first big one musked the hell out of my hands, so I grabbed some gloves for this one....and imagine this...he musked too! Lol

There are 3 types of Garters in Indiana that are pretty common. This one I believe is literally a "Common Garter". They vary in Indiana from dark black to light tan with their stripes....all of them around my house are tan though...

Just thought I'd share. I could probably picture a different one a couple times a week if I wanted to! :)

Ah, the memories! I grew up in southern Indiana and remember garter musk well. I'm not about to make fun of the "wussy gloves" either; I had a hard time convincing one particular garter that I was too big to eat. It didn't really hurt, but it did develop an unpleasant rash despite the fact that it was promptly and thoroughly cleaned.

Thanks for sharing.

Great looking garter, always loved catching them as a kid and still love catching them as an adult!!!!

Way cool garters, we hardly ever see any around here--ever been musked by a grey rat? Pee-Yew!
