snake age and sex

As I have recently learned, it is pretty hard to tell how old your snake is by size. I have a little ghost corn born in august of '03 who is only 9 inches long, where as I have seen others who were born around the same time who were up to 15inches. You might want to call the pet shop and see if you can ask one of their reptile people, most the pet shops around here keep track of the snakes eating and can at least trace back how long they have had the snake.

As for sexing either call a pet store and see if they have an experience person who knows how to sex or see if you can find an exotic vet in your area who knows how. Its a pretty simple procedure that takes just a few minutes (but it could definitely be harmful to your snake if the person sexing doesnt have a clue).

Good Luck

well there are other ways, dont know about the age, i was told mine is a few months old hes about a foot and a half, i was also told male and the way they found this out was the shape of their tale!!! its not 100% but it dont harm the snake and they didnt wanna try so im happy. But males tails are usally bigger that females and males are usally bigger that females when he/she is older put her in with a male and see what happenns b prepered 2 get him/her out and then ull know if they dont fight and she gets fat later girl if not male well this isnt 100% either but whocares just b happy u have a nice snake

Legolas,

Putting them together and possibly breeding them is a very irresponsible way of determining gender. Shorty may end up with babies, and not have the ability to care for them or find homes for them. Also, if the female isn't big enough, then she can become eggbound (which is life-threatening!).

Shorty,

It is possible to estimate by looking at the tail. This will be hard to do since your snake is young. Check out this thread: http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8764&highlight=male+female+tail

As for your snake's age...all you can really be certain about is that it was born in 2003. If I don't know a snake's exact birthdate, then I will simply pick a birthday for it. Most babies hatch out between June and September.

To make a guess on the age, I would say 3 months. At that age, you probably wouldn't be off by many months. However like the other posters said it depends on how much the snake has been fed and it's genetics for growth.
