Heat Lamp VS Heat Pad

Asking for some opinions and facts. Which do ya'll think is better. Getting two different lamps (day and night) or just getting a heat pad? And comments and facts will be greatly appreciated.

I have both, but only because my house is so cold, that the cold side was staying at around 65-68 degrees. I have a heat mat under her hider cave on one side (she's still fairly small, so half the cave has the mat, the other none), and I have the heat lamp on the other side of the tank. It points straight down at her basking rock, and the side opposite it stays around 75-78. She comes out every evening and cruises just after the lamp goes out, although I think she waits so that it will be dark.

I use heat lamps because my room is actually warm (its in a basement and is actually completelly underground, insulation!), so the heat lights come on in the morning (for half the tank, so that he still has a cool side) and go off at night. One of the lights shines onto a rock to provide a nice basking spot, and the substrate is about two inches deep, so if he is hot, he'll burrow all 3.5ft of himself and lay directly on the class at the bottom of the tank.

:)

My experience with lights:

They dry the enclosure more than under tank sources. This is great for desert lizards, but is less than desirable for corns. You will probably notice this more during sheds.

Is it true?

Someone once told me that lamps were actually better than under the tank heaters because if placed above the snakes water dish it actually does create the required humidity.

Thoughts?

Mine has only shed once since I got her, and I had the lamp. She shed everything but the tip of her tail, and I think she'd had a problem with that before I got her. I'll let you know the next shed. I think she's going to be shedding any time now. Her color is getting real dull, and she was slow on her feed this last time.
