cows ... the Constitution ... and the Ten Commandments

tsst

Deuce is watching!
Got this in an email - a bit of levity or is it? hmmm :shrugs:

COWS
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

THE CONSTITUTION
They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq ...why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore.

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS
The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this -- you cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians, it creates a hostile work environment.

:grin01:

It's because good breeders keep exceptional records. If your cow produces good calves, but you don't keep records, you won't be able to reproduce the crossing.

The constitution is also being used a great deal now. Unless something changed overnight and we're suddenly allowed to own slaves/women can't vote.

Don't agree we are not using it. Do think we should just say to the Iraqis "Why don't you try this one as a draft Constitution. You can always amend it if you don't like it."

Don't agree we are not using it. ...

I am just leaping to assumption here because the quotes in the OP are not mine but ...

I think the reference doesn't literally mean that we are not using any portion but rather that our politicians choose to twist it to meet their needs or ignore parts they don't like.

I think (IMO) that they are referring to things like not securing our states borders (article IV section 4), or the apparent unwritten abolishment of the 10th amendment (out of control growth of the fedgov into areas they should not be), or that a president swears to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" but instead many choose not to if doing so helps or hurts their poll points, or the very loose accordance with Article VI by politicians (shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution) again just what whim suits them at that point in time or whatever twisted interpretation or clausal abuse works best. JMHO :shrugs:

Sorry stick man, most people enjoy laughing. This was clearly presented as a laugh email which you in your stick nature made it all sticky.

Yes, yes. Because I don't laugh at the smallest thing I evidently don't enjoy laughing. Nice logic there.

LOL!! Nice!!!

I think PART of what makes these funny is the fact that there may be a grain of truth in them. If you leave it at that... funny.

BUT when you think about it a little more... perhaps too much... that's when the "grain of truth" can cause one to take it to the next "not so funny" level.

I agree that the OP's posting was hilarious! And about the constitution, I'll say it, it's true! So yes, we're not owning slaves and prohibiting women from voting anymore, got that. But it's undeniable when a president brings in his own panel of people to reinterpret the constitution as it was signed 234 years ago. That maybe, we're missing the point on what "the right to bear arms" really means. That maybe we missed the point on it all, and clearly he and his panel are the only ones who really know what they meant when it was written. So they will tell us, and pass legislation according to what they think. That is most certainly NOT using it. The constitution was written in ENGLISH, there's not much to get lost in translation last time I checked. If you can't appreciate someone else views on something as funny, then you're not using the constitution. It's called free speech. We have the right to say what we want and decide for ourselves if it's funny or not. Get over yourself. If you want everyone to think like you do, there's still parts of the world where communism and the restriction of free thought exists. If that's not for you, you can conveniently use the button labeled "back" on your browser next time you run across a general chit chat forum that says something you don't like.

Free speech also gives other people the right to say that what you think is funny is the stupidest thing they've ever heard in their life. And yes, there are many, many places in the world where free speech is not allowed and communism (or fascism, or dictatorships, or puppet-elections) rule. This country, despite what some extreme people might think, is not one of them.

So...does this only apply when the Constitution protects you, or does it apply across the board?

I think that the Constitution regularly gets ignored by the government.

Anytime they try to do something silly like tell private individuals who it is OK to fall in love with, which medically viable choices they are allowed to make for themselves, which harmful intoxicants they are allowed to use and which they aren't, which religions are protected and which aren't, which prayers are acceptable and which aren't, and a myriad of other invasions into the private lives of private individuals.

However, when the government instills regulations that are designed to protect private citizens from the rampant abuses of big corporations, like insurance companies, oil companies, and banks, that is, in my ever so humble opinion, precisely what the government is SUPPOSED to be doing.

So again...does your little rant only apply when you agree? Or does the constitution protect everyone, including people you might not agree with?

I'm just saying...:shrugs:

I agree it's not one of those places. I was trying to make the point that he used the two most archaic, irrelevant responses to show that the constitution is used today. Slavery was abolished in 1865 and women earned the right to vote by the 19th amendment in 1920 when it was passed by congress. Hardly applicable to any statement made in 2010.

No, I may have my own views for my life, but I don't care who people fall in love with and wish to marry, what religion they practice (I practice a misunderstood alternative religion myself), or any of that. It applies across the board as far as I'm concerned. However, I do care about legislation that will directly affect my way of life ie guns, as of lately reptiles which I can or can't have, etc. The freedoms in the constitution should be universal, not tailored to fit a politcal parties agenda or corporate interests.
