Am i to young to get a pistol?

Nitelion94

I am The Nitelion
im 16 and i want a pistol but my mom says i cant till im 20 or till i move out. i have 3 rifles and 2 shotguns but she says if i get a pistol ima shoot myself. im thinking about getin 2 and belike this similie:twoguns: lol

You are DEFINITELY too young to get a pistol. Legally you have to be 21 to purchase one on your own, and I don't see any responsible, consenting adult making the mistake of actually buying one for you.

Also, if your mom has worries about you having a pistol, perhaps she should worry that you own any guns. I know that I had the utmost trust and care when I used to own the guns that I did, and I would have never given any reason for there to be any concern with me owning one.

u dont get my mom. ever seen the chuckie chesse comerical were the mom wraps her kids in bubble wrap? yea well take that mom and times her by 10000000

What are you going to do with it? Do you have an adult that you go shooting with? Have you taken any classes? I shoot with several people that are under 18- they are quite responsible. I think Cowboy Cody must be about 10 or 12. He shoots with his grandfather in a tournament I shoot in.

im useing it for fun/i have a pretty outdoorsey faimley and i hate haveing just a knife when all my other cousins have pistols. ill b buying it my self and im not geting anything huge just a 22 mag prob

Seems to me that if you can't legally get one, you probably shouldn't have one...

Not only that, if you still live under your mother's roof, you should be mature enough to abide her rules, and not debate the issue. Your reaction to the situation, not to mention the "joke", doesn't scream maturity.

I could be wrong. I don't know you, I'm just guessing...

I can see where that would make your mom nervous...You could show her you're serious/responsible by taking some NRA classes.

If i dident debate with her i wouldent have a snake. and yes nanci i shoot with adults im not aloud to shoot by myself. and omgz im sry ppl i dident mean to joke i just figured some of you might have a lil bitty sence of humor

Well keep taking more! Shooting classes are fun!! I bet you could even learn some things from the shotgun and rifle classes.

nanci dont take this the wrong way i dont mean to sound a punk or something but i dont rly get what a class woulda teach me that ppl with 30+ years of shooting cant

It would show dedication, to begin with. People with 30 years of experience may not know/remember all the ins and outs of everything. Just as I know a vet tech who has worked in the field for 20+ years and knows stuff I don't... and I, with my education in the field, know things *she* doesn't.

No learning is EVER wasted.

It's not all about what it teaches you, it's about humbling yourself to understanding the importance of gun safety. Impatience isn't a trait that goes well with shooting guns, and it's definitely best to take as many courses as you can, even if you feel like you already know the info... It's practice.

I took hunter safety when I was 12, then again when I was 13. I was incredibly sick for the test the first time around, so I retook the entire course a year later. I enjoyed every bit of it.

ok i get u guys now. sry for sounding like a punk
It's how you learn, not a problem!

With hunting and shooting, it's all about consistency. It should be like a ritual that you've practiced so many times that you don't even have to think about it. When you take a gun out, it should always be free of any rounds and have the safety on. You should always carry and shoot it in a way that never endangers anyone else, etc... These are things that a lot of people ignore, and one of the big reasons that I would either go hunting by myself, or with my step-dad (at the time). I hated the risk of going out with people that didn't have the right focus or responsibility. It's the same with driving for me, too. I can't stand how careless a lot of people are when it comes to responsibilities that could be deadly if not done with care and safety in mind.
