Baby Horned Lizard

Daenerys

Mother of Dragons
Brandon and I went to Charlotte Repticon this weekend and I picked up tis guy right when the show ended on Sunday. They were asking $25 for him and I paid $14 (all I had left) and they threw in $15 worth of pinhead crickets for free :D I love end of show deals! I had been stopping by their table to watch these little guys eat their crickets the whole show, they are so adorable when they're eating. They wiggle their little teeny tails and position their little feet before they snap it up XD sooooo adorable! I named my little guy Dudley cause he is so chubby lol

He is VERY tiny and adorable! He's only like an inch long!

Well the setup sounds pretty simple. I am going to put him on sand with a UVB light basking spot at 100-110, and since he stays small he can live his whole life in a 10gal tank. the only thing that may prove to be difficult is to find food for him, he will mostly eat pinhead crickets and harvester ants but I can order those online....weather may get in the way of shipping, though. I think once he gets bigger I can buy most of his crickets at the local pet store but I can't get ants locally. He only needs the ants every once in a while. If I put them in the fridge they will hibernate and last for months.

Micro-dinosaur! Cool. So no fancy requirements except UV & heat. That sounds relatively easy. And all he needs is crickets & ants? I should look into one of these. I want a small viv critter for my office, a herp that can thrive in a 10G, and ideally something that could live in a xeriscaped desert viv so I can put a miniature cactus in it.

My fav lizards EVER! I've always wanted one, but after researching online, it seemed like they are terrifically difficult keepers, so I threw in the towel. I hope you and your adorable little guy prove everyone wrong and that he thrives in your care!

 Congrats on the new Horned Lizard, Phrynosoma platyrhinos I believe. What a little doll. I have 2 of the little buggers, but they're adults. They'll also eat mealworms, waxworms, & waxworm moths...that's Needles' fav. Spike loves the crickets (no bigger than 1/4"). Make sure to dust their crickets w/vit. & Calcuim w/Vitamin D. My 2 were WC & already mature, so I didn't get to see them grow up. They have both shed w/me...Spike twice.
:) You're also going to want to spritz them at least a few times a week. The site that I belong to doesn't recommend pools. Wait until ya see them puff up when they get spritzed...way too cute. They look like little whoopie cushions! :roflmao:
And those ants are really dangerous, :( so be very careful. They pinch & sting. Using a spoon to remove them from the container is highly advisable. And don't put in more than like 5 at a time as they will attack your baby. Those buggers will draw blood. I so wish that I could keep them in my fridge, but I love my milk to be really cold.
Thank you so very much for sharing your baby w/us. :D

Very cute. I have always wanted to find/catch one...but it never happened.
An inch!...daing!....
Really really cute.

Awww, he's adorable! Love his tiny little tail, that is just too cute. Congrats on your pickup and thanks for sharing your pics!
