My new boa girl :)

SnakeAround

Formerly Blutengel
Shortly after I decided I 'needed' another boa I passed the table this lady was on at SnakeDay 2010 in The Netherlands. I fell in love with her immediately. She is an ´09 pastel boa constrictor. In real life she is bit darker, but the photo does show she is very colorful and she has a ´lilac´ iriscendent layer. She is very friendly and very glossy in appearance. Me like a lot :)

Very nice. She is very iridescent, which I don't associate with boa constrictors at all. I also like how the tail markings extend up her body past where I think her vent ought to be. Nice boa!

Thanks, they are way differemt then cornsnakes, soooo docile and calm, like they are all collected fine lady's.

A couple of days ago I fed her for the 2nd time. I put in the mouse with her in the tub and she put her head underneath her curled up body, sticking it into the opening in the middle. Then she started to puff and huff in a way she almost sounded like a growling dog?! The mouse was somewhere in the tub, but outside of the circle of her body. Does anybody recognise this behavior in boa's? She did not pay attention to me so I don't think she was scared or angry regarding me standing over the tub. i left her alone and later she had started eating... sideways... *duh* it took her way long to find out where the head was. After it was eaten I put in another one, which she had started eating a coupleof mins later, sideways again! I hope she ain't a little retarded boa lady :p

Nah... she's not "retarded". Some of my snakes STILL seem to try to eat sideways... but eventually figure it all out. I've actually read somewhere of some larger snakes eating a mouse/rat sideways with no ill effects, so it really isn't a cause for worry.

About the snake... NICE boa!!! She's so very pretty! I have a deep need to own a boa one day... but not anytime soon (Oren, where are you!!???). LOL. I just need to live vicariously through the pics of yours and others for now. So... thanks for sharing!

I was a bit more confused by the 'growling' sounds she produced :p Eating sideways looks so uncomfortable if they manage to fold the prey so it gets twice as thick as it would be when eaten the right way.

Hmmmm... Never had a boa so I can't speak on the "growling" sounds. Hopefully someone with more boa experience can chime in.

As for eating sideways... I do have a growing LTR (Leucistic Texas Ratsnake) that has "started" eating sideways but fixes it. I'm actually hoping to see her get one down sideways - as long as it doesn't hurt her. Perhaps when she's bigger. LOL.
