I have look all over the net and cant find any! I am going to a show next month to get some corns and I am not sure if I need a permit or anything to buy/own any help would b great Ty in advance. Nitelion
 
You might want to try the legal section on faunaclassifieds.com. I know when I lived in KY you could only keep a couple of snakes before needing a permit. Mainly because corn snakes are native to the area. But laws have been changing a lot lately due to a few peoples carelessness with large "pets" like Burmese Pythons.

Looks like it depends on the county you live in. Just remember one thing, if no one knows that you own snakes. Then no one will know to call anyone.

You are only breaking a law if you get caught.

You can probably get sake at the local sushi joint :grin01:

Be sure to check your city and county ordinances in addition to state. Cities/counties can sometimes have more restrictions than the state level.
 
Ky state law, you can have as many morphed animals as you want...breed and sell freely but you can only have five normals before you need a permit. $75/3 yr if you don't intend to breed or sell them and $150/yr to breed and sell. Check your local laws for anything stricter. BTW don't listen to Fatman if the vendor is doing his job he has to record sales of native species and report sales if requested by fish and game.

Hey Nitelion94,

That is good advice, just remember if you ship them in from out-of-state there will be no paper work going to fish and game. Just think out loud. Plus it does not hurt to see if the vendor does or does not do paper. I got to wonder if they check ID's because if not the kid across town now owns a bunch of snake that he should not. Again just thinking out loud.

This is great advice. I didnt even think to consider local laws, which sometimes can be pretty different than state sadly.

As for the whole its ok as long as you dont get caught. I wouldnt do it. All it takes is one scared delivery person, emt if you get hurt etc. I wouldnt want to think of the fines and possible jail time just because you wanted to keep a few snakes.

I like Pita bread too. I like mine with bean dip or turned into a sandwich. However, I have never seen skinny Pita bread. I will look for it at the store next time.

Out of state sales are even worse and easier to track. You have to pay a $25/per shipment for a import permit and don't expect Fed Ex or UPS not to rat you out unless you are known shipper.
 
Hey Khaman,

How does Fed Ex or UPS know what is in the box. You said "you can have as many morphed animals as you want" the shipper does not know a regular corn from a morph and I doubt they care. All the shipper wants to do is drop off the box and get moving on to the next delivery.

If you do not get a permit you do not have to pay the $25/per shipment for a import permit. All you have to do is be quiet about it.

Well to follow federal laws the box has to be marked or the person shipping the animal(s) is in trouble too and a lacy act violation is not something you want to mess with. Importing an animal into the state without an import permit I beleave is a felony so make your own choice. Yeah you can skate the laws and many do but importing using the shipping companies without a permit is like cheating on your taxes it's not the best idea.
 
Thanks everyone. Im just worried because a few years back I had 4 friends that kept hots and one of them started hanging out with a guy he met online. Well guess what the guy was an undercover police or something and they all 4 got put in jail.
 
The only way to avoid that sort of worry is to avoid breaking the law. If you decide to break the law, then you accept responsibility for the consequences.

TBH, on the face of it those KY laws don't sound very onerous. Four Normals + as many morphs as you like and no permit required? That's not exactly draconian.

Only non-native hots are prohibited by state law but lots of local laws have restrictions

The sixth normal of any native species is when you need a permit unless you want to sell them then you need a propagation permit.
 
Why don't you look into joining The Kentucky Herpetological Society. They can answer your questions accurately for you.
