Last I looked, Safelink didn't give out Blackberries or other smart phones. So that person bought that phone.

On the other hand, do we know they are homeless? Or is this a set up photo op?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm "The world may never know".The secret serveice is a little deturing at a shelter where people want to feel safe not scared.Man I wish I was you.I think it was a a set up but you never know

This is what I really like about Michelle Obama's. She genuinely fits in as someone who would help out at a homeless shelter. And she does it without a look of disgust or uncomfortably being there. Definitely a real person who's been involved with the less privileged communities (regardless of the "black berry", which looks just like my $10 Tracphone to me).

I agree with you, Michael. She doesn't look like it's a staged photo op and she hates it. I don't like President Obama, but that's separate.

Safelink is a separate issue too. How can you get a job if you don't have a phone number? Pay as you go cell phones or Safelink phones may well allow someone who wants to work but is down & out get back on their feet. Of all the things we give away as a society, this is one of the better ones. I am also not sure it's taxpayer funded. I know that some people will say it is, but I have been to their website and as near as I can tell, it's NOT taxpayer funded. Sure, the corporate donors are using money they get from ME to pay to Safelink, but that's not a tax, I could always not do business with those corporations if I really objected to them funding Safelink. And every adult needs a phone number, whether it's a landline or a cell phone. If you're homeless, a cell phone that's cheap would be better, so you CAN look for work and become a taxpayer again.

Great, more paranoid fear mongering... Pathetic.
Fixed it. Hopefully it is not too Pathetic. Though it was interesting that the snopes link, in their attempt to disprove, speculates just as much as the author of the original picture. As a side note you're darn right I fear what is happening in many facets of this country today.

You missed up a good picture but do not worry I was able to send it off to all my friends before you changed it.

I hate the PC police.

Exactly what does this have to do with PC police? The picture is completely mis-represented to help further one sides beliefs. It's an incorrect statement being used for a politcal agenda. That's called propaganda and has nothing to do with PC.

Although I guess that fact that it's an outright lie does make it incorrect, and it is a political statement... OK, nevermind, you're right.

:nope:

Hmmm...I wasn't aware that in the modern American vernacular of the English language, the word "accurate" was synonomous with "politically correct".

Anyone care to remind me what it is called when someone intentionally misrepresents the facts in an effort gain support for a political viewpoint using fear and anger in response to lies?

Oh wait, I remember...it's called propoganda.

Great to see so many of our fellow Americans gladly and malisciously contributing to uninformed propoganda, and so able and ready to spread it so quickly. It's the Amercian Way, ain't it fatman? :headbang:

This is funny, but could be TOTALLY out of context. Obviously someone was there doing a news story on this.. or something.. hence the photographer. That guy taking the picture could be a personal friend or.. part of the crew.. anyone.

That said, I'm not a political person, I could care less. I just like to point out that not everything is always as meets the eye..

Edit: I should have read everyone's comments thoroughly before commenting myself..

Great, more paranoid fear mongering... Pathetic.
Ahh f-ing men.

I did not change it to make it PC. The person who put up the thread did.

I wonder if the guy with the camera has any CHANGE in his pockets because I know I do not.

I wonder if he is going to get free heath care that is not free.

Love the Fatman

Exactly the type of response that makes me want to throw up. Let's face it, and enough with any possible excuses. It's a black man in black clothes and sweats and the fact that he has technological advances makes "some" *cough* people angry.

Nowhere does this photo say anything about this man's income, why he's taking a picture, why he's there, or anything. If it was a white man in a suit would you have assumed the same? Even though the possibility could have existed that this homeless white man could have been given a nice outfit for the day. Let me answer for you... NO! No way would anyone have assumed or added the captions about this man.

Guys and gals let's stop this before it gets out of hand.Remember (I think it was Am I to young to get a pistol)remember this that got out of hand and it started just like this.

First off I believe these "priceless" lines (as in this type of spin from the credit card commercial) are intended as a hyperbole of a situation. The picture IMO was spun this way NOT to denigrate the very John Doe in the photo but rather to shine a big spotlight on situations like this that DO exist.

The snopes link speculates just as much as the OP picture. They only succeed in the semantic argument and that is a stretch. So he wasn't "receiving a meal" he was only standing in line where the meals were being served. It may not be a Blackberry it could be a 7-11 prepaid phone that looks just like a Blackberry Curve right down to where his thumb is to push the trackball and take the pic. It wasn't outright gov funded but my guess would be that as a charity they are granted tax exemption and the private funding was probably claimed as a donation which in turn would be tax exempt so yes by omission they are in a way gov funded.

Really?!?! The race card?!?! I don't care if he is purple. It's not about the man it's about the situation!

Again IMHO the photo was intended as a hyperbole directed at the abuse of the social programs in this country. If any of you wish to deny the existence, strike that, the prominence of that abuse we must live on different planets. :shrugs: :headbang:

I do believe he was making political remarks, not racial ones. Obama's slogan thing was about HOPE and CHANGE, and Obama has brought us a new health care system. What he said had nothing to do with race, but politics.
