brumation nessecary for kings/milks/hognoses?

Kali

lost cause
It's kind of hard for me to brumate my snakes. They are in a room that is heated with the rest of the house, and though I can turn the heaters down in that room, it doesn't really get a brumation temp.

Until now I've never brumated anybody, and never had any problems with the few I wanted to breed, but they were all corns.

I also have cali kings, honduran milks and western hognoses now (oh where is the time of having one snake :D), and I'd like to breed them eventually.
Not in 2011, as my females aren't big enough yet, but 2012 will probably be the year.

Now I was wondering if these species, as opposed to corns, really need their brumation for breeding. If it's a question of having more or less fertile eggs, that's not really a problem for me, I don't HAVE to have big clutches. But if they for sure won't breed at all if they're not brumated, I'll have to find some solution for next year.

So a long story short: do cali kings, honduran milks and western hognoses breed without brumation or won't they at all?
If some say yes and others no on a particular species, I'm willing to just try it that first year, but if an answer is "no they definately will not", I'll have to go and find brumation possibilities for next year.

thanks for any answers!

That's a tough question. I know that Hondurans don't need cooling. I've breed several over the years without it. If it is a quality breeding then I cool them. I cool all my hognose and Cal kings. If you know yours are from the warmer part of their range, you might be able to get away with not cooling.

You might want to check out the temperature in a closet. Look in a back corner on the floor aqainst an outside wall. You would be surprised how much cooler those areas are.

I didn't brumate any of my Western Hognose last year and I've produced 3 clutches from 3 unrelated pairings and have a 2nd/double clutch due to hatch in the next 2 weeks. I also have a pair that have been kept together and witnessed mating for the last month or so, the female is now finally starting to look gravid.

Having said that, I don't think it's necessary to brumate Western Hognose to elicit a breeding behavior but there has been some speculation about the fecundity of unbrumated animals. All I can say is that I've had an expected successful season.

Well that sounds promising so far :), thank you for your answers!
The closet idea is not bad at all, but my biggest problem I think is the lack of constant temps. when the heating starts, the overal temps are considerably higher than at night. Good for me of course, less so for a brumation.

I guess I'll just try it then. Like I said, for me it's not really a problem should there be more slugs then when I would brumate. As long as there are healthy babies I'm happy.

But still a long wait :( Females not big enough, so I'll have to wait until the 2012 season...
