I dont see what set this guy off... lol. Nanci did you give him advice he didn't want to hear or something? I mean what could he get mad at you about?

There's some thread about snakes and rocks as substrate. He hates me because I told him he was depriving snakes of the thing they like to do most. Whatever- I call it like I see it. He wanted to be able to see his snake all the time, so he provided a substrate that was impossible to burrow in.

All of this over that? :sobstory: I'd say put down a tile slate if he really wants a "rock" but still include the wood shavings. I did learn recently how well the tile works for distributing heat but geez. No reason to go off like he did.

You mean you haven't heard?
Snake keeping is not about doing what is best to keep an animal healthy and content. It is about doing what is best for you you you, and if you want to be able to see the critter 24/7 then who cares about the snake? I mean, it's just a snake and don't we all keep them just to look cool?

*disclamer...the preceding message was meant to be a sarcastic parody of a poor keeper and in no way reflects the views of this poster*

That and another thread about live feeding pushed him off the edge.

And for the record, he used shredded paper as a substrate... he was explaining that if someone would want to see them more, just use a heavier substrate and add another hide. Things ended up getting way out of hand in both thread cause people got the wrong idea. When everything is typed and people can't hear a tone, things can be misinterpreted extremely easy...

And i'm not saying he didn't overreact, cause he did... but people just need to re-read what they are posting to make sure it can't be misinterpreted

I know this all to well being a senior manager of an online gaming community with people from all over the world. It is something that is easy to forget because we "hear" ourselves saying what we are typing in a matter of speaking. If that makes any sense..

There is more than one way to do everything.. God forbid I do something different that you do Nanci..

Nanci:Sure there's more than one way. The best way for the animal, and the best way for the human. Guess which one I try to provide.

"oh wow what a bummer, i sure wish he would put that aspen back in my tank"
I called one person argumentative, that was "Nanci" , you are just annoying, and trying to jump into a conversation that was more or less dead.
And no it was not simply stated why someone would not want to, it was pretty much called out as a bad idea, and detrimental to the snakes health. Yeah, wild snakes live on silk sheets and are hand fed grapes in a lavish temple.. Get real..
MOST IMPORTANTLY>>> IT WAS ONE IDEA.. ONE LITTLE IDEA that turned into this.. Yeah I'm a really evil bastard for using paper towels and pebbles..
Someone just posted images of the exact thing i was talking about, and how is it hard to rinse small stone and marbles in a sink?
The funny thing is its the same 3 WOMEN that keep running there mouths.. I know thatch the wrong thing to say, and its sexist, but Ive noticed a pattern, that's all..

Nanci:
Bammer- you need to calm down and stop with the name calling.
All I said was "Sure there's more than one way [to do everything]. The best way for the animal, and the best way for the human. Guess which one I try to provide."
And I stand by that.

*headdesks* We may not agree on everything here 100%. But I do know we agree some snakes love to burrow and others dont. Sounds to me his did like to burrow. Even for our snakes we have in the rubbermaid bins they have aspen and they do burrow in it and arrange it the way they want. A Kisatchie we have constantly, no matter what, always pushes the aspen off to one side so she has a spot to dig in and a spot where she doesnt dig. And I iwll see her using both ends.

I can understand how some people might like paper towel as a substrate in a hospital snake, for for hatchlings, or whatever. (I tried it with hatchlings, and HATED it. They always ended up with their paper towel in the water bowl, which wicked the water out and soaked the bin. Hey- maybe I should have taken their water bowls away!! JUST KIDDING!! I gave them CareFresh and aspen). It really bothers me, though, that someone would take away an activity that the snake "liked," or was programmed to do, for their own pleasure of being able to see the snake at all times. Um, that's why snakes burrow. So you _can't_ see them. They want to be hidden.

I like the part where he complains he's being showed off by 3 women. That part is COMPLETELY irrelevant to the problem at hand in the conversation... hahaha
