Question on rat genetics ...

Hey Tavia,

Rex is a dominant gene that causes a rat's coat and whiskers to be curly. The coat can be tightly curled or just sort of kinked and wavy.Double rex happens when a rat has two copies of the rex gene.A double rex will have a very sparse coat that grows in and falls out throughout it's lifetime;at times being almost hairless.

Answer stolen from Lavender on Yahoo answers.

Thanks! That's about what I thought. But I also wasn't sure how the Double Rex affected the appearance, so that is good to know. I've thought about getting a rat again off & on for awhile & had thought a Rex would be neat, though they are hard to find around here. Someone just put up an add for 11 rex, double rex & half dumbo, half standard eared babies, though & got me thinking about it again. Maybe get 2 girls. Have to see.
