;_; If it weren't for the fact that I'd hate to move that far, I'd have applied in a blink. ;_;

Nice. What I like about the Smithsonian zoo is that it is out of the city. I hate fighting traffic to get to and from work.

Doesn't Alan live in the DC area? I know he has a good job, but being nearer more cool herp people would be neat, too.

I would love to apply for that job, but two things killed it for me. 1) I cannot pack up and move to DC, 2) "Must lift up to 100 lbs" While I can do this most of the time, my back was utterly mucked up in Afghanistan and if I lift too much too often I will be layed up in bed for a few days recouping and taking some pretty powerful muscle relaxers. I just love having problems with my spine and siatic nerve.....

You know, any of us could work the DC zoo reptile collection... they have very few animals that I didn't either have myself or know someone personally who owned one.

There were a few hots on display... those were the only ones I didn't know much about.

Man i wish i could just pick up and leave for a job like that!!! Thats my dream job!!! :crying::(

It would be a nice job for Dr. Mohr, except for the relocation part...

Thanks for the thought.

It is a nice job but I already worked as a tropical reptile keeper at an AZA zoo. It was fun and I was able to work with a lot of neat critters...anacondas, retics, dart frogs, tomistoma, eyelash vipers, mambas, king cobras and many, many others.

Education and research is where I'd really like to be. I have applied for several positions and grants concerning this aspect and hopefully will hear positive info back in the near future.

But..you never know....maybe I'll send an application in...the Smithsonian is a really, really, nice zoo. The relocating is not the major drawback....the hours are the big disadvantage....the new people always get the crappy shifts...holidays, weekends, nights....blah!
