Can you help me ID this snake?

I saw and held this little guy in one of my fav pet shops this evening. The owner wasn't there, and they had it tagged as an amel stripe cornsnake. I'm about as positive as I can be without ever having seen one in person, that the little one is a rosy boa (albino), instead of a corn snake. It's slower moving, calmer, and just feels different when holding it, somehow. Its belly is clear, and you can see what it looks like on top with these photos. Can anyone confirm this snakelet is a rosy boa, or if not, can they tell me what it is?

Also, if it's a Rosy Boa, can someone please give me a quick rundown on its husbandry needs, as I couldn't resist it, and brought it home? Thanks :).

Mrs. Z. that is sooooooo an amel rosy boa. And you sooooo need to buy it and send it to me.

Oh,...I see you did the first part. I was wondering about the "take out" carton. LOL.

Cool! Well, s/he definitely is a little cutie, which is why it came home. Don't know what they're worth, but the $90 (retail, in a pet store) was worth it to me. S/he's just little, and s/he just arrived there today. I'll get its feed records tomorrow or Monday when the owner comes in. She'll know--or her husband definitely will--about where the records on the snakelet are.

Now I need some name suggestions :). Gender unknown at the moment.

Very pretty little snake :)
How about Wonton, Chow Mein, General Tsao, Kung Pao, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Mu Shu...? Those come to mind because of the take out box :)
Congrats!

This is a great website for rosy boa care:

http://www.localityrosys.com/

The website has all the basic requirements under "Husbandry and Propagation." We have a rosy boa, named Rivet, and he's a very calm, easygoing snake. Husbandry is fairly simple- rosys like drier and warmer conditions than corns. I find Rivet does best at about 20-30% humidity. His water bowl is a shot glass, the small surface area helps keep down the humidity. Cool little snakes...they burrow a lot.

Thanks for the website. It seems to reiterate the info I have been finding on Google, so we've set up its viv to meet those needs. It's now resting in its new home, and in 5 days or so, we'll feed it.

Heather, I like the idea about the Chinese Food names :). Z and I both had to laugh when we saw what they put it in. I think we both said, "yum!" at about the same time.

Maybe I should call it "Foo Young", as that's my favorite. Or maybe Wonton, like you suggested, as that's my second favorite Chinese food--crab wontons, to be exact :). I don't think I'll name her "fried shrimp", though! LOL!

Very pretty little Rosy! Rosy Boas can be fairly reliably sexed just by checking for spurs by the cloaca. The Husbandry page on Locality has a pic of the spurs. Congrats on the new addition! I sure love mine. On a side note, how do you confuse a Rosy with a corn?

Beats the heck outta me! The owners weren't in when the shipment arrived, and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have confused a rosy for a cornsnake. I can only guess when I say that I think the ladies working there were looking at the inventory list and decided, based on its coloring and markings, that the little rosy was an amel stripe cornsnake. It is, after all, amel, and it definitely has stripes :).

OMG!!!!!!!!

I am in love with that snake!:crazy02::crazy02::crazy02::crazy02:

You are so lucky to have found him/her!!!

I bow down to you!

I would've done the same thing in a heartbeat!

Very pretty little snake :)
How about General Tsao, !

LOL my Chinese co worker tried to give me a rooster once! They brought him to work for a few days and my roommates and I named him "General Tsao". He was pretty sweet, but they also owned a young Pit Bull, and we figured that the name might become to literal if we brought him home..

I really like those Chinese themed names though!

I sooooo hope I can find a rosy boa at my show next month! I want one so bad after seeing yours!!!!!!! I am very very jealous

Also another thing with Rosys, most of the care sheets out there seem to way low ball their life spans. 30yrs seems to be fairly typical & they can possibly live in excess of 50yrs. This is from what I was reading on a Rosy forum, anyway. Rosy boas are fairly expensive, so while $90 might not of been a great deal, it wasn't a bad deal either. That would depend on the age, sex of the snake & it's locality. It's also a morph.

Here's a pic of my two Mexican Rosys.
The male, Sebastian, not a great pic.

The female, Esme.

Hey, I figure that the price of something is just right when a buyer is willing to pay that amount :). I was, and so I did. Looking online, it seems like a fair enough price--no great deal, and I certainly didn't get screwed on the deal, either! LOL! Since I picked it up fairly local (about an hour's drive from here), I didn't have to pay shipping, like I would if I bought it from a breeder in another state. I think I did A-OK :).

I love your black and white rosy boas. VERY striking coloration!

I like the chinese name and the snake! I dont think I would have been able to resist it either.
