I have a corn. But I want to branch out. Any ides??? Not a bp!!!!!!! and please do not say anything about me sticking with one for while. I'm not like going out tomorrow and getting one.
 
Well, I personally feel like a good other snake is some sort of King Snake. I have a Brooks, and he's just awesome. I also have a Grey-Banded King Snake and he might have the best temperament of all of my snakes.
 
Lets see, my second snake was another corn. Then my first one got out and into the neighbors apartment when I was away, and instead of calling the local snake guy, they called the animal control people who thought she was a bull snake and took her out into the desert and let her go... I was furious that they didn't even try to ask around to see if it was someones pet before taking her into the desert.... Then I got an adult corn, and since then I have gotten two king snakes and a Desert Glossy.
 
Hey Nitelion94,

I would recommend almost any King but do your homework because some kings are not beginner friendly because they really like to eat other reptiles.

Now if I were you I would look into a Black Milksnake. However, they do get bigger than a Cornsnake.

I'd go with a Mexican Black King. They don't get any larger than a corn, and are one of the mellowest kings. I have a pair and they are not only gorgeous, but very mellow and easy to handle.
 
I fourth the black milk snake. They are on my list of must have snakes.

You could also try kings or garters.
 
I second the Florida king. I really love my rosy boa, too. Do you want the new snake to be bigger, smaller or about the same?

Milks can be VERY shy, therefore they don't like handling. I've found a few that are okay. I recommend a Honduran milk. All of those I've handled were a doll.

Kings can be extremely aggressive. I've only picked up one king snake (a Mex Black) that didn't freak out and try running off or biting me, and it was in shed. I've seen many people have very good luck with them before.

You could also try a bull or pine or gopher snake. Those can be aggressive, but not like kings, I don't think. They are also about twice the size of corns, if all the information I've read is accurate, but not much harder to care for. You could also try a small boa sub species (some males of some sub species are as small as 5ft), or a Rosy/Rubber/Sand boa (all three are about 3 feet at most).

Any reason you don't want a BP?
 
Length does not matter. But im not a big fan of snakes that get umm the word is not fat but like big around. I was going to look into a rosy untill i heard they bite a lot. I can deal with bites but I was told there bites hurt....BAD. I heard milks are bad to musk?????

I think this depends on whether or not you handle the snake often.
 
Okay let me give some details on what I would like. I want something that gets long. I think a 6-10 foot long slim snake would be awesome.If they bite I do not care all that much unless its like a BBBBBAAAADDDD painful bite. I am getting a job in january so price on up keeping it will b okay. I do not want anything that's like going cost me over 200$ to buy as a baby. OR something that' s going to musk a lot and for ever
 
My rosy boa has never bitten. They just get really excited when you feed them and have very poor aim. But- they are short snakes.
 
I want a rosy soooooooo bad. I have only talked to one person that has been bit that I met on this site. Every one else says there good. Ill never be holding the mouse. When I feed I drop the F/t mouse in the feeding tank to thaw then when its done I put the snake in with it. I have done the Zombie dance once with my corn but nothing special happened.
 
African House Snakes. They don't get very long, though. Good eaters, easy to care for, pretty calm. Not very expensive (got mine for 40, which was a bit expensive, even). Females CAN get 6 feet, but not always. Don't get a male if you're looking for a long snake, as they only get about 2-3 feet long.
 
My rosy doesn't do so well if I just put her in with the mouse. She has a hard time finding it. She is the only snake I feed with tongs. I touch her body with it, and she opens her mouth and comes after it. If anything (like her body!) gets in the way, she just bites. She's a perfect feeder who never refuses. But she's a chunky short snake. Not like a BP, but she's 425 grams and _maybe_ two feet long.
 
I do not recommend garters, but maybe you would like to clean up little bits of poop everywhere almost everyday?
 
Well Nanci I think you talked me back in to getting a rosy. Do you have any pics of yours on this forum? If not do you mind posting?
