Lawmakers Ban Protests Near Tucson Funerals

I had read earlier today about the possibility of those protests, Aaron. Out of respect for the individuals, I'm glad the atmosphere will be more reverential. It is unfortunate that we cannot legislate matters of poor taste or good taste. Seems like as time goes by people are clouding, or never learning, those invisible boundaries of sensitivity, human courtesy, and good taste.

I agree, I can only imagine what that nut job family church's signs would say about those poor unfortunates that got shot.

I do not care what side of the fence anyone is whether it is political or religious, no ones funeral should be protested. It is a time for the families and friends to pay their last respects and to morn the loss of a loved one. I pray that the friends and families have peace on the day they bury their loved ones.

It is very sad that legislation has to be passed to keep a funeral (for lack of a better word) holy.

Indeed. I don't see why the family shouldn't be allowed to dictate who may or may not be near their funeral. Near being the contentious word, I guess. Just doesn't seem like a first amendment issue to me, since the funeral is a private affair, not a government affair.

I couldn't believe hearing about this either... Who in the world would say that it is better off for a 9 year old to be dead? Sick, sick people.

The unfortunate thing is that there is yet another law that has been passed that may be twisted and convoluted to mean something else entirely sometime down the road when the reason for its passing is long forgotten.

My heart goes out to the families and friends of the victims. May they find some sense of peace in all this... and I hope their time saying goodbye to their loved ones is left - private.

There shouldn't even be sides, really. This should be a situation that has no opinions (not with the thread, just in general). Freedom and decency should be one in the same, and if we can't be decent human beings, than we don't deserve complete freedom. But sadly, the idea of someone protesting one side of the political spectrum at a funeral for a child, is a way for the other side to promote themselves through the media, so the circle continues.

I hope they let them get close enough to arrest them. And I hope they lock every one of those heartless (Censoring my self here) and throw the book at them.

For "christians" they are very far from being christ like. As a matter of fact they are every thing a christian should not be. I cant stand those Twisted, psychotic, hypocritical lunatics and have done nothing but cause harm.

And to show you how messed up the laws are in many places, at my dads funeral there were so many people that the parking lot was full so people parked on the side of the road. We all came out to find 2 Anchorage Police officers out there putting tickets on peoples car windshields. You could see the hurst and could tell it was a funeral but they didnt care. So many people today dont have any respect for others any more. And people like those From Westboro Baptist Church who SHOULD have respect and treat others with love are only using "the word of God" as a shield to hide there hate and satanic mind sets behind. I hope they mess up and get caught and I hope they throw the book at them as hard as they can! Its about time they stop using the rights that were given to us for our own protection as a tool to hurt others.

As a firm believer, I agree with you Allalaskan. IMHO these particular groups (or just their pastors and their "fringe" followers) are seeking their 15 minutes of fame by being this despicable. Obviously NOT following in the footsteps of the Son they profess to believe in.
