A rescue of sorts

Starla Pupke was a local "cat lady". She dedicated her life to rescuing feral and other cats and getting them spayed and rehomed. Depending if you love cats or not she was a hero or crazy, but she recently died, hit by a car while trying to rescue a critter.

Left behind were several of the semi feral cats she was taking care of. And today I am adopting one. I needed a barn cat to help control rodents and this half wild (but conveniently spayed and vaccinated) cat needed a new home. I will have some help from the lady that is taking care of them now to help get her used to living here- basically we are setting up a cage for her to live in a few weeks while she gets used to the new place and then I will let her go and hope she sticks around. I am told she is a silver tabby and not very friendly. That's OK, Maybe I can tame her down, and if not she will still be welcome to live in the barn.

I will be sure to get some photos when she gets here!

Aww thats sad....good for you, though, rescuing a half wild kitty. They aren't easy to deal with.

I once picked up a wild kitten... I still have the scars on my hand from the little guy...lol...
But, before we found the babies a home, I had them all used to people, and we even kept the one that tore my hand up. He was a good cat, right up until the day he died.

I asked for one of the less friendly ones on purpose because I figured they would be hardest to place. And I do have some rats in that barn so she will have a job. If I can't pet her that's OK I have a spoiled indoor kitty too LOL

Well she's here...
She is so scared! She has not come out of her hide thingy yet. I brought her a bit of food and took a couple of quick pics. She is very pretty, light silver like a silver queen ghost LOL.

Hey--dry barn, lots of food, not too much interaction from scary humans. What more could she want?

She's got beautiful eyes. They look green!

Well for three days and three nights, "Jessie" did not come out of that hiding/scratching post. She did not touch her litter box or food. I got really worried, but finally on the fourth morning I found a poop in the litter box and she emptied her kibble bowl that day! She is still extremely shy but every once in a while I catch her peeking her head out to look at me, LOL
I have been a bit hesitant to update in light of the recent "rabies" thread and the people who frown upon keeping kitties outdoors but I am just so happy she is finally adjusting to her new situation. I think she is finally starting to realize that I am a bringer of food and will not hurt her.

I am one of those who frown on keeping pet kitties outdoors...BUT in a case where you are taking in a feral cat that would never be a housepet, and this animal otherwise would be put to sleep, and she can keep the mice out of your barn...I see this as a win/win for everyone!!
She will be fed, and warm, and vetted, and looked after and will live longer than she would have otherwise, even if something bad happens to her every day she has with you is a day she wouldn't have had otherwise....
This is really really a good thing you did.
And don't listen to anyone who says it isn't!!

Update
So I released her about 3 weeks after I got her. She ran away and didn't come back, or so I thought. I kept putting out food, for a while nothing touched it. Then sometimes it started to be gone when I got home. This continued and then I saw my neighbor's cat around the barn and figured that was what had been eating the food. Well today I saw Jessie for the first time since I let her go. So I guess she doesn't care much for the barn and prefers the blackberry bushes, but at least she is alive and I am happy to see her I figured something had eaten or someone shot her. But she is OK and hanging around. Doesn't help much that she is hiding by the creek as far as staying in the barn to hunt rodents though
