Going Away

Hey, i'm going to scotland for about a week, and I havent anyone to look after my snake, he should be ok for a week on his own, I am gonna feed him just before I go, so he probably wont come out until half way through my holiday anyways, but still I thought I would ask just to check, I REALLY don't want him to die, I luv him.

food certainly won't be a problem for that short a time.

Are there any friends or neighbours you could trust to change the water?

if not, a week isn't that long, he should be fine

where abouts in the UK are u? I live in leeds and where i am there's a shop that for a fiver a week cares feeds and looks after your snake. the site for the shop is www.snakesnadders.co.uk if ur interested

My local reptile shop also takes "boarders" - Reptiles Plus in Bournemouth. Do you have a local supplier?

I got lucky - my mother adores snakes and thinks nothing of coming in to change the water. Dad isn't that keen, but then, he doesn't make the rules!

Little word of advice:

If you're only going to be away for a week, don't feed him just before you leave. Make certain his vivarium is tightly closed so that he cannot escape should he get a little hungry, but don't give him any food that will not have been digested before you leave.

One week is not that long for him to do without food, so that is not a problem at all. However, if you feed him just before you leave, and he regurgitates the food, for whatever reason, you will have a HUGE mess on your hands when you get back. Even if the snake has no harmful effects directly from the regurge (and they can), you still will come home to find a partially digested mouse, the stench of which is really unbelievable after a few days being unattended! We won't even discuss the possible maggot infestation...



The best thing is to have somone check on him in a couple of days. Short of that, make sure he's secure and safe, then leave him plenty of water until you get home. Then feed him, he'll be hungry, but you'll be happier, I think.

i have been away and left my snakes for a week a few times, I don't feed them just before i go though, don't worry, I'm sure he will be fine!

Thanks all, i went away, and i did feed him, i didnt see the posts, luckily, no regurgitation (cant spell), the reason i wanted to feed him was so he would be "hiding" for most of the time, so he wouldnt be trying to escape or anything, Anyways . .. m hes fine and went into shed shortly after i came home and has no shed and everthing is good again
