Large collection shedding?

Dakota Corns
Anyone notice in their large collections patterns in shedding of their snakes? I know it's related to the fact that all my snakes (currently 38) eat regularily on the same day each week, but I have approximately 3 'groups' of snakes that shed within 3 days of each other religiously. Anyone else notice a pattern like this?

The reason I bring it up is that even though my snakes all feed on the same day, my 'groups' are not age related. Meaning many of the ones that shed together aren't necessarily from the same groups as I purchased/hatched them, but they are housed closer together. If that made any sense.

It makes sense, shedding is a hormonal cycle. Women who live in the same household can fall into menstrual-cycle-synchronisity. Groups of corns housed near each other will probably be slightly effected by each others hormones.

I can't say that we have noticed a pattern. There may be one and we just never picked up on it. Seems like some one is always shedding. You did say your feeding them all on the same schedule. Even though, they are different ages and sizes it still is possible that is the reason. Shedding is related to there growth. However, I have 'heard' of female mammals that lived together sharing the same cycles. So, I wouldn't dismiss the fact that the snakes shedding at the same times are housed closer together. Sorry I wish I could help. I can't offer anything but questions to add on to yours. Lots of luck.

Thanks for the responses. Being 'scientific' in mind myself it's really just noticing patterns within my own collection and wondering if there's others that see the same time of thing or unique to my own situation. Where would we be really without noticing these types of things as mundane as they may appear on the surface?!

Drizzt80,

Ok, new shed cycle...

YES!!! Your right. It was like a chain reaction. I wouldn't say 3 days.but it was defintely all at once everyone was shedding or about to shed. I think our collection size puts us on about the same level. I would like to hear what some of the big guys have to say.

This is something that I noticed with my collection a couple of years ago. Back then I had Boa Constrictors exclusively. I asked this very same question on the boa forums.

When you have a large number of snakes, you tend to do more scheduling. Setting specific days to feed, days to clean ect. Basically your whole collection becomes synchronized. Today with my corns, as well as with my boas years ago, everyone seems to shed within a week or so of each other. I've noticed that age, size and species have little to do with it...

D80,

Interesting post indeed. I've noticed the same thing in my collection as well.

I've noticed that each age group sheds at roughly the same couple of days. I find it pretty convenient actually, just open up all the containers and grab all the shed skins, toss, and go.

You have to abide by schedules when you have more than 5 snakes really. It saves time in the end and makes it more convenient to do. It always throws a wrench in the whole thing though when someone regurged and you have to feed them on an "off" day.

I'm well aware of women's cycles synchonizing after having lived in a dorm for a year. Seems everyone's cycle happened at once and there was always that time of the month everyone would fight like cats and dogs over silly stuff. ;)
