Carefresh caution

I have used Carefresh as substrate for a long time and do prefer it over others, but I feel it's worth posting that I did once find a circular sliver of metal in it. I assume it was from whatever machinery they use to chop the stuff up. I now sift through it all carefully, as I refill the cage.

yep - you missed a chance there!

ah well, at least you noticed, and your snake wasn't harmed - that is what's important,

Thanks for the warning...I use it too. Haven't heard of many other people who do (although maybe they're not posting, I think it's great) but I'll check carefully from now on!

I really like the stuff. It doesn't look bad, is very absorbent, affordable, and my snake loves to make tunnels in it! At first I was afraid that it might be too drying for him, but have had no problems with shedding or otherwise. I am also surprised that more people don't use it. To each his own I guess. :)

Is that the grey paper wad things? If so I use that in my roach container. =P

I don't use it for snakes due to it's expense. When you're dealing with over 10 snakes I found it uneconomical. So I just get a huge bag of aspen shavings instead. =)

For some reason I think mine came in a pink bag instead of green. I'm sure it had its pluses and my roaches really like it. It gives the newly hatched roaches a place to hide and feel comfortable and it absorbs the odor pretty well.

However I didn't like the smell of it. It has a chemical smell similar to chlorine. I don't know if anyone else noticed it or not, but it had an odd aroma for sure. Either that or I have a hyper-sensitive nose. :p

My friend is a herpetologist from Nevada and he loves the stuff. He uses it when he transports his rattlesnakes here to do our Snake Avoidance training for dogs. Woohoo, a house full of rattlesnakes in May!! :)
