Answers--Buying your snake off the internet is not a bad thing, the most important thing is who you buy it from. Now since this is his forum, Rich@Serpenco gets top billing. The only downfall if your only buying one snake is the shipping could be as much as the animal you select. Bathing your snakes is optional, however it is very important that your snakes have clean water. Some like to bath there corns, and if you time this right your snake can almost be "potty trained" to do his business in his bath, avoiding excessive cage cleaning. Housing corns together isn't recommended, I know many have done this with no problems, but I prefer not to. Rare cases of canibalism have been documented and early unplanned breeding can bring on some health problems. I don't use lamps for heat, they tend to eat up much needed humudity. Heat tape cost much less to operate and can be put under one end of the tank. If you want to light your tank, flourescents generate little heat and look nice with the right bulb. Best of Luck!

Yeah, I use a heat pad and I would recommend heat tape or heat pads to everyone over a light since as Matt said, they dry the air and also they use more electricity. And you have to have a "night" bulb and a day bulb or use a heat pad during the night and a light during the day. Which is a hassle when you can just use a heat pad day and night.
A few other really respectable breeders are Don Soderburg of South Mountain Reptiles www.cornsnake.net and Kathy Love www.corn-utopia.com.
You can bathe your corn before a shed to help him but many will shed with no problems if the humidity in the cage is right. I only give mine baths about once every two weeks cause he hates it and I only do it to make sure he's "clean" (no poop residue, please..)
I don't think you're an idiot at all. It's good you're trying to learn how to properly take care of your (future?) snake and there's nothing even remotely idiotic about that. :) Good luck

Mine loves her bath!

Well it looks like all of your questions have been expertly answeared! I would only add that I let our snake take a swim every other day(wait 48 hrs. after feeding). We clean the tub out with bleach water solution(rinse WELL), then fill the tub w/ inch or so of water(temp.80)and give her a little island to rest on. She is so used to it now that she never poo's in her cage!! And she loves to sprint around the tub! After we pull the plug and all the *yuck* goes down the drain, then(important) we repeat the bleach wash. It only takes a few minutes and she is really cool to watch!!

Hope this helps>:
