I need information from anyone concerning the use of 'heat tape' cable that is used on water pipes. I currently have a rack with a heat source from the back using flexwatt, and it works great. I also have a rack with flexwatt serpentined on each shelf going up the rack. I would prefer to use this system, but the aluminum tape bunching up and thickness of the flexwatt gives me headaches with keeping the lip of the cage and the shelf above an adequate distance apart.
I was looking at the AP cages website as per another thread, and just cannot justify spending the money they want for these cages, but do in fact want to build my next rack using heat cable. Problem is, what wattage cable would I want to use for belly heat in a routered groove in malamine shelving? Can anyone help me who is either an electrician or has used this method for a heat source?
