PETA porn (Article, not a naughty site)

RobbiesCornField

Bring it on.
Well, it looks like everyone's favorite organization (where's that darn sarcasm font when you need it?) is at it again. This time, they're going to try and trick less informed people into giving them money through a different outlet:
pornography.

Yes, you read that right. PETA is going into the porn business. I'll let you read the rest of the article for yourselves, but this just had me stupefied this morning as I read through my daily dose of blogs.

PETA to Launch Porn Site in Name of Animal Rights

Since they're doing it, maybe we should counter with "Babes and Boas" or "Studs and Snakes"?

We could do a Babes and Boas and Studs and Snakes calender run! Different snake and lady/gentlemen for each month! :grin01:

I'll second the motion for Nanci and Susan to be the first models!

If I could drape myself with Twinkie, that might work!

*sigh* Peta sure is a bunch of crazy people..
I think the worst part is, they bring negativity to helping animals. No one wants to be associated with them. They're hurting their own causes.

HOWEVER,
the babes and boas, studs and snakes idea is awesome :D
Where do I sign up? hahaha

If I was a "babe" I'd say I'm in, but no "babe"-age here. Lol

That being said, I like this PETA idea a lot more than the stupid Sea Kittens thing. I still giggle and shake my head with that one. I honestly think they would get more (and better) attention if they opened up a sight like Documenting Reality (which is awesome for what it is). If they had a collection with verifiable proof of when and where abuse to animals took place without the "animals are people too", I'd be much more inclined to take them a little more seriously.

That being said, two notes: First, I love animals and do "humanize" them, but I know the are not people. Second, please don't look up Documenting Reality unless you are willing to look at pictures and videos of death-related material. The material is real and uncensored.

Wow. I think that is really all I can muster anymore. This group of individuals has gone so far overboard that's it's really not even as shocking as it *should* be anymore.

Let's get this straight...people will be greeted with "enticing" images, and once they get "deeper" they will be bombarded with graphic videos of animal abuse?

I wonder if there is a way to prosecute on the grounds of implied bestial snuff or something...

Whatever...

I'll be happy to photograph anyone for a Babes and Boas or Studs and Snakes calendar. I'll even pay for my own copy when it's published!

I agree with you one this, especially the Documenting Reality. I also "humanize" my pets, too. But I still consider they are animals.

As a vegan, I absolutely DESPISE PETA! They are misleading, hypocritical, stupid, and worst of all ineffective. There are so many reasonable effective and trustworthy ways to promote animal welfare. PETA gives animal lovers and people who support animal welfare a bad name. I really honestly hate them.

ok wait, i just read it.

"When people first visit the site, it will be very enticing and once they go just a little bit deeper, that's when they'll be confronted with images that we hope will make them stop and think and get them talking and hopefully encourage them to make a lifestyle change to a plant-based diet," Rajt said.

so WTF people go somewhere to get their jollies, and BAM images of animals being mistreated? YEAH. masturbation -> stop eating meat. that is exactly the path everyone's thought process will take...that is seriously so over the top i just don't have any words.

Katia, that's EXACTLY what I was thinking. Porn and Animal Rights are like at opposite ends of the field... One has NOTHING to do with the other. If you're interested in speaking out for animals and preventing cruelty then you're not going to want to look at porn. And as you said, when a person is wanting to look at porn they aren't in the mood to hear about animals being treated badly.

I just can't fathom how they made that connection. This just seems like some belated April Fool's joke... It doesn't make sense to me at ALL!

If you've ever had run ins with this group, you'll realize they generally don't make sense. I've had issues with them when I was actively showing cats. They'd come into the show halls and the second we found out they were there, it was like lock-down. I was 10 when they managed to poison a cat at one of the shows I was at. The cat died in convulsions and even as they were being arrested, they said it was better for the animal to die like that than it was for it to 'live in a cage'. Granted the cat was a top show Persian who's owner spoiled it. The cat was happy. PETA disagreed and thought they should take it into their own hands. They've also let dogs loose at dog shows only for them to run out into the street and get hit by cars 'for the betterment of the animal'. That happened to a friend of mine who showed Saint Bernards. Luckily none of his dogs were hurt but he had to help friends whose animals did get hit...
Welcome to the world of PETA. They feel that no animal should be kept in captivity and will literally, do anything they can, to stop it. It doesn't have to make sense to sane people, but to them, that's how they think.

Any it never occurs to any one of them that some animals would prefer to be captive? Sure, snakes probably couldn't care less as long as they have what they need to live. My mutt on the other hand, would want to come back inside after a day of chasing rodents. She's currently licking one of my cats as we speak and I know she would hate not being able to do that ever day. In addition, if she sees me leaving her, she runs after me. I don't see how "setting her free" would make her happy whatsoever.

One of my cats could probably be okay because she was a stray, but the other two would be too stressed out. Spookie had an escape and after I found her, she's not shown a sign of wanting to try again. Cassie freaks out every time she thinks I'm getting rid of her. She's fine in a cage outside and fine in my arms, but you put her down and say "shoo" and she goes straight back to the front door.

I hate to judge people, but I really must in PETA's case. They are a bunch of ignorant fools who need a good kick in the head.
