My Snake Bit Himself!?! Please help :'(

I know this isn't exactly corn snake related but this is the best website as far as getting feedback IMO.

I just fed my rosy boa today and he likes to constrict the mouse very strongly... as a result sometimes blood and/or a little bit of guts gets forced out. I believe he was confused since he had the scent of blood all over him and he accidentaly bit himself after constricting his mouse... it took him a few seconds to unhook his teeth from himself..

I'm kinda worried.. I don't see a very bad wound but it's hard to tell since he still has blood on him. He got the mouse down fine and everything but I don't know what to do now. He's still in his feeding bin... should I try to somehow wash the blood off so he doesn't decided to try and eat himself again? Should I treat the bite somehow? I don't think I have any non-medicated neosporin right now..

I've had snakes bite themselves during aggressive feeding sessions as well as males biting females during breeding. They seem to end up just fine without doing anything, so don't panic.
 
okay ): I let him crawl through some damp tissues when I put him back into his viv to get some excess blood off of him belly
 
Stacia..he did that a few times when we had him. I have a couple others that do it sometimes too. Sometimes I think they get so excited it is feeding time. He should be okay. Let us know if there are any wounds or anything strange happens.

I checked it out and I can't even see where he bit himself so I think its okay.. it just scared me lol

It seems like every time I feed him he does something to freak me out... first its spitting up blood and now biting himself
 
Yea he is quite the character. Does he turn his head upside down for you? Mike used to get the biggest kick out of that
 
He does while he's eating yes! lol Also, I noticed if I take him outside in the sun or even if I let him sit under a sunbeam coming into the house, he does this weird little head-bob dance. I found some videos of another person's rosy boas doing the exact same thing in the sunshine so it much have something to do with the species.. it's funny though
 
Lol! Welcome to the wonderful world of Rosy Boa feeding responses! Glad all turned out well, but don't be terribly surprised. Here's what my Whitewater girl did during feeding time yesterday... In the frenzy to strike and coil her mouse, she... well... Missed.

(And between my 2 rosies, she's the calmer one!!)

It really isn't all that abnormal, no... lol... My Anza Borrego will "taste test" anything that touches him, no matter what it smells like. He frequently tries to eat the snake hook, and has been known to strike, coil, and try to eat fabric key fobs. If he's investigating his tank, all it takes is a little puff of air through the screen top, and he'll strike at the wind thinking that movement means food. LOL. I actually got him from the pet store I work at, and he was everyone's (but me, of course) least favorite, because he would always, without fail, try to eat whoever stuck their hands in the tank for any reason. He tried to eat the back of my hand once, back when I still thought the rosies at work were all sane (they aren't mean--just food-crazy). I've since wised up, but he's gotten the rest of my coworkers at least once each. :p

LOL my ball python did that once. He didn't seem to associate that the fact he was in pain was the result of him biting himself. (he was "killing" a dead mouse). I told the breeder I got him from about it because I thought it was weird he would do that and he just laughed and said it was funny :p
I just put some neosporin on the one scale he broke and all was good.
 
I was feeding Janine the Florida king a couple nights ago. Just a fuzzy someone didn't eat, so I wanted to give it to her with tongs in her cage, not take her out. Well she gets so many treats she goes CRAZY if I even touch the latches. She bit her big ceramic water bowl- like CHOMP!!!
 
Similar thing happened to me. Feeing a 4ft Cali King a live mouse (rehabbing a WC snake, no need to get into the live vs. f/t debate) and she missed, bit her own tail, an trie to constrict herself. Needless to say, she was a very confused snake.
 
Haaa!! My hognose bites herself regularly! I watch her VERY closely during feeding!
