I just bought one of these things and I'm really less than pleased. I have my thermometer in it and though I have it set at 86 it's 78 in the bottom and 84 on the top. I've had it running for 2 days now and really need to transfer my eggs, but this thing just sucks. Anyone ever used one?
 
Does it have a small fan in it to blow some of the heat down to the bottom? I used to use a hooverbator for my chickens a long time ago.
 
I'd probably suggest a quick fix with a fan to circulate the air temp, and that would fix your inconsistent temps from top to bottom.
