My husband and I used to own and breed veiled chameleons. I would forget the wooden cage and make one completely from wire, and make it cylindrical as the chameleon will get in a corner and push to find a way out, creating a mess. Supplements are critical, especially the correct balance of calcium and phosphorus, dusted daily on their food. Females will break legs during the digging of their hole to lay their eggs (and that's a whole chapter in the care of veiled chameleon handbook in and of itself). Crickets are great, but giving your chameleon a variety of insects (mealworms, flies, roaches, waxworms, etc) is best. A wonderful person to talk to about chameleons is Kathy Love. She and Bill are the people hubby purchased our first veileds from.
