The moment I looked at the picture I knew he was a Catahoula... Absolutely the most amazing dog breed out there!

They're a fantastic breed. I've always had Dobermans and their personalities are very similar, though Dobes tend to not herd everything. ;) This guy is a 65 pound lap dog. He likes to chase the cat away from the snake racks and flop in front of them to "guard."

They are fantastic, and loyal. I had a 65lb Blue leopard Catahoula, that got in a fight with a 110+lb Rottweiler when I was a child because she thought the rotty was endangering us kids. Okie lost one tooth, but the Rotty was placed in the hospital for a week and had to get 13 stitches.

Also, is he registered? If so, if he has any Terra Cotta Catahoulas in his bloodlines, those were my dogs...LOL

He's not registered. He was a rescue from a "breeder" in Louisiana who kept all of her dogs in kennels in a shed. 40+ Catahoulas were rescued and transported up north. Remy was one of the last to be adopted because he had some severe stomach problems, recurring ear infections, rotten teeth (at 8 months!), and was so under-socialized that he'd turn tail and run at the sight of a new person.

He's usually great with other dogs now and reserved around people. Definitely protective of us; he goes on alert every time we hear the neighbours shut the door.

I love the blue merle look, and was looking into a few, but Remy's ad at our local rescue broke my heart and I had to get him instead. I haven't seen too many other reds around, just in Australian Cattle dogs.

Do you know the breeder's name? I bet it may be someone that my father knows... Though most of the people I know in Lousiana that breed Catahoula's do not keep them in kennels in sheds. The understand that these dogs need excersise and attention, and they breed them because they love the breed.

We had a red Catahoula when I was a kid. She ended up jumping the fence when we were at church and we came home to see her laying in the ditch... I nearly died because I was crying so much, she was such a sweet puppy. We had only had her for a few weeks too...

I'm not sure of the name, but my partner is friends with the vet tech who was part of the transport. I can see if she remembers who the breeder was.

I will be very upset if the breeder was the lady we got my brothers Catahoula from a long time ago... I can see where some people would think her set up is bad, but when you have 20+ dogs, things get crowded. And, she made sure that the new owners were going to take care of their animals, she always checked up on our boy..LOL
