for Joe Pierce(2004 Cotton Candy Lavender female)

hey joe, here is one of the females. I also threw in a photo of one of the Hets because they are so damn pretty. I think this may suggest that some of those "hypo" Lavender females we have been seeing out there arent really hypos but light normal Lavenders. Thanks

Ya I am a little worried about that too, since this year I did hatch some females that are just as light and pink as the males!

wow............
that lavender is so light that is looks like a snow with lavenderish coloration~

such a pretty snake..........
that het is also nice looking~
pretty~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS, Mike and Carol!

Very nice girls Mike! There is really no doubt about female Cotton Candy Lavenders being as nice as the males. Rich Z produced them as well, and now you and Carol too.

The Lavenders vary so much that I can see how some of the light Lavenders could easily be mistaken for a type of Hypo. This does not take in to account that there is very likely some other type of gene floating around in the Lavender group that has a lighting effect as well. It may even be a significant genetic gene, that we can get a handle on.

The pair of Hypo Lavenders that I have did not produce even though they bred many times, but the Hypo Lavender male has produced six clutches for me and all of the females were Standard hypos or Crimsons. Every hatchling is a hypo and seem to look like Crimsons type hypos.

Congratulations to Mike and Carol for producing some beautiful Cotton Candy females! Wouldn’t it be sweet if one of you were heavy females and I could get some from you. A pair or trio would be sweet!

Well.....maybe not. I really started considering that maybe these darker females are just light "non-Hypo" Lav's. However, one of my clutches just pipped that was the result of a darker Hypo Lav female and a Ghost Motley. The offspring are 100% Hypos, so I guess she wasn't just a light Lav. ;)

Joe if you are really interested, I am sure I can pull off 1.1 or a lone female.

Interesting topic.

Carol, the pair I have, what were the parents?

My female is definately a different shade then the male. She's still much lighter then a normal Lav but the color is more normal then the male. I'll have to snap a pic tomorrow.

The problem is that we (I in particular) may not have any idea how many Hypo genes are now in the Lavender bloodlines. It is entirely likely that some Hypo genes may have more influence than others when combined with Lavender. There is another issue that I will bring up later when some more clutches hatch out and I have a better handle on what I think I am seeing.

The parents of yours are not related to one mentioned above. The were the result of a hypo lav X double het crossing. I only hatched one normal lav last year out of about 22 eggs even though the female hypo lavs were darker than the males, they were still a lot lighter than the lav. I have two adult female Hypo Lav's and they were both always MUCH darker than my Hypo Lav male (the one that fathered yours). Your little male is a spitting image of him. And even though one of these females was much darker, today she proved herself homo. When this years females shed, I'll take pics. I believe one or two females are darker, but still definately hypo lavs and at least two are bright just like the males! I didn't produce any that were as light as the males last year. :shrugs: Geez, I guess I will have to double check when they shed to see if I sexed them right.
