Rubbermaids/Sterilite tubs

I was wondering if someone could help me out, I am looking to get some new tubs for my rack and I cant find any good tubs at local stores and I cant even find a website with what I am looking for. :shrugs: Does anyone know any good suppliers that will ship or any links? Thanks.

You couldn't find any good rubbermaid at the stores like K-Mart or (as much as I hate the place) Wal-Mart? I'm going to start checking my local K-mart or Target and see what they have. I need to get two for my new snakes.

Nope, I haven't checked K-Mart in a while but last I remember they didn't have any, wal-mart didn't have any I was looking for either. I am looking for large tubs that are long ~ 3.5-4 or 5ft ideally. They have them that long here but they are a foot and half tall so it would take up too much room for a rack, my ceiling isnt high at all maybe 8ft. I also want about 10-15 tubs too so it just wouldn't work out.

If Wal-Mart doesn't have what you're looking for (they should, I think what you want are the under-bed storage boxes.), then give a Menards, Lowes, or Home Depot a shot.

I personally prefer Sterilite size and price wise. I use the 15 and 32 Qt. tubs for my racks, but the 32's are only approximately 25" long which isn't what you are looking for.

D80: Do you use UTH's with the Sterilite containers? I'd like to use a small one that I'd like to attach to a piece of glass and then place under the container. The plastic on the sterilite and rubbermaid containers are pretty robust, and I don't think they'll melt.

Rubbermaid make a tub that is 16" wide, 6" tall and 33" long. That might not be exactly what you're looking for but it's a good size for most adult corns... or if you just like to provide some extra space.

One thing to watch for with these tubs is the sides. The 33" side had not snaps or clips and is NOT escape proof by any means. You'll need to come up with some method of securing those sides or make a lidless rack... they rock! :)

Meg, I use FlexWatt heat tape attached to the back of my racks on pegboard. I don't have any set up with belly heat, but don't think that I would be worried about it. I have come to prefer using the back heat.

I looked at the flexwatt, but since I don't have a rack system yet, I'm not sure I want to deal with the wiring. I suppose I could put the UTH on the side if I wanted side heat, instead of the bottom. It would solve any excessive heat for them to lay on that way.

Meg, I was very nervous setting up my first racks using the back heat method, as my first set of hatchling/yearling racks all had belly heat. I had never even considered the idea of the 'excess' belly heat that could be created from the UT style of heating. Probably would have made my decision easier last year!

I was actually more concerned about using the dimmer switches along with the Thermostats that I had. All in all, it worked out just fine, and after a week or so, I had no major fluctuations in temps.

I've never had too much heat. I have a fairly thick layer of substrate over the heater in my amel's viv, and in my Aztec's, I've covered it with a taped layer of paper towel because she likes to burrow. So basically she has 3 layers of paper towel over it. The temps stay in the mid 80's. I just fed her, but she's being weird and sitting around on top of her hider cave. I think she's hoping more food will drop in. Fat chance!
