New Tank and some questions

Before I ask my questions, I assure everyone I did search
on this subject but still would like some feedback.
My son and I were able to puchase a 55Gal aquarium at
a very cheap price. It also came with a table and rocks
and driftwood pieces that were used in it as a freshwater aquarium.
I have read that the rocks could/should be heated in the oven
and soaked in 1/10 bleach solution. Does everyone concur with
that approach ? What about the driftwood ? It looks clean.
Although, I intend to sand down some sharp edges and points...

What about rough edges on the rocks????

Any feedback is welcome.. :shrugs:

Rock and driftwood can both be soaked. 1 in 10 solution of bleach is more than enough. A pint in 5 gallons was what I used in making beer, and never had sanitation problems. Use cold water for the soak, as hot as you can get it for the rinse. Bake dry or air dry. Make sure there is no lingering smell of bleach, especially on the wood.

Clean the tank using the same solution. Again rinse and air dry 'till no aroma remains.

That should handle the cleaning issues.

Now, rough edges... I wouldn't worry for the snakes sake. The creator of the universe did not round every edge in nature, you probably don't need to either :)

If you wanted to, what I did was boil my rocks I found, for 30 mins, and the wood pieces I have, if your wood can fit in to your oven. Is I baked it at 250 for 2 hours.

Just another suggestion.

Good luck on setting up your viv.
