Water dish

I know most reptile water dishes seem to be very shallow. Unfortunately, my pet store has not had any in stock for quite a while. I was wondering if it is okay for a new hatchling to have a fairly deep bowl with just a little bit of water in it. My other short-term option is to take a plastic deli cup and use a hot iron to cut it down to a shallower rim. I would melt the edges because otherwise they would be SHARP. The problem is that it is so light I have heard of snakes that always spill. Which option is better? partially filled high ceramic, or low-cut plastic??
Thanks for any ideas.

Whatever you prefer. Just make sure the snake can drink and bath if needed. A shallow cup will make bathing easier though.

hiya Azruial :wavey:

how old is your new hatchling?? mine was 10months old when i bought it..LOL
s/he is now only about 15 inch long
the bowl i have is about 2 inch deep and 5 across. plastic..looks like a cat food dish (straight sides)
To begin with i filled it quite high but s/he didn't like to drink from it. Now I put about 1/2 inch of water in there and s/he is mich happier. :)

thank you

Thanks, I am planning on picking my snake up next week, It ate it's third meal with the breeder on friday so we just have to arrange a good meeting time.

Azruial, have you considered using an ashtray, especially a glass one, they are flat shallow and even have a depressed lip for resting the cigarette or snake's chin on... I found this a good, cheap temporary measure.

I bought some small shallow ceramic bowls from Target for .99 They are shallow, easy to clean and not too large.

I'm gonna buy a nice one to go with the viv as soon as they get the shipment in. They are around $5.95 but they look so nice and they seem just right for a snake.
