best time to "handle" them

mbrown

Sleepless in NY
whats the best time to handle them? i heard once a day, but when? evening? night? day? morning? please help

From what i have learnt about corns, they are nocturnal creatures. My corn is up and active from about 9pm, and thats when i handle her. All snakes have their own personalities and so the time you spend handling really depends on what your snake prefers. I used to handle mine just for a few minutes at first, very near or over vivarium and let her go back in when she wanted to. They soon get get to know you are not going to hurt them and get to know your scent.

Dont forget not to handle after feeding and leave it for at least 24-48 hours to digest.

Just let your snake get used to you and for you to get used to it!!!

I am sure some wise ones will give you some advice too. :)

i handle my corn during the day. i tried at night but he would get aggitated quickly. he is much calmer during the day. i'm also around more during the day, so it works as part of my schedule too.

My 3 are up and about after 9pm, like angeladams, and this is when I handle them the most, I only really handle them during the day if I catch them up. I do sometimes disturb :boring: them to take some pics, but this is usually on sunny days which are few and far between up here :( .

As for frequency well I think thats down to your snake, I handle my Normal and Bloodred once a day(average) but my Crimson is more active and I had her out 4 times last night :D.

Im sparatic with mine. I hadle them at all different times depending on the day and what im doing. I have them out from anywhere between 15 and 45 mins at a time, sometimes even longer.

I am pretty routine, so my handling times are at night. I pick her up 2 times a week one for just quaility time and the other to put her in her eating container. Which has worked to my advantage because that is when she does poo in her eating container. :) So her cage stays cleaner.

I handle my 3 year old snow 2 to 3 times a day when I am home for roughly 10 minutes. my 3 year old okeetee I handle a lot more as she likes to cling. every time I pick her up, she wraps my arm and just stays in position. a lot of the time when I am working on my computer or doing other small things around the house, she is wrapped around my arm watching everything that I do. My hatchlings, I handle about 3 times a week. Once when I feed them, then again 3 days later to clean their deli cups, and a third time just for quality time. Seems to work for me.

When there awake and cruising the viv :)
Right now my snakes hide under the water bowl (I made some pics). I pick up the waterbowl, clean it put fresh water in it, and place it right on top of them again. Kinnda scary as there isn't a visible hole there in. I may squash them. But there cool with it. It's really nice my snakes trust me that much :)
