vacation watering

I've been searching and reading and generally it seems corns do fine for a week, or even longer with a full water dish as long as they don't foul it. However I can't find a reference for what to do about a snake with a flair for getting UNDER her dish and spilling it. She just seems to like burrowing in her bedding and everytime she goes for the dish.

my snake burrows all the time. and spends most of his day under his water dish. i just made sure to buy a heavy water dish that he couldn't spill.

Take a plastic contianer with lid. Cut a hole in the center of the lid just big enough for the snakes head(cool whip size contianer works great for adults). That will slow down evaperation and help stop spills.If the whole snake can't fit in it it's not going to deficate in it. Also for regular day to day use there are plenty of ceramic water dishes avialiable that corns can't tip over.

How are your snakes getting under the water bowls? Are you setting the bowls on top of the bedding? Why not just set the bowls directly on the bottom? I don't understand.

Water dispenser

I have successfully kept my two snakes watered with a cat water dispenser. This is heavy enough when filled with water that they can't crawl under it. They are good about not doing their business in the water dish, so I can leave them with confidence for 2 weeks this way. Their cages are pretty tall, so this dispenser fits. When I return from vacation, it's back to their usual water dishes.

I'm not sure if this would be so successful for baby snakes; the cat waterer would not fit in their little cages. My littlest one was 9 months old when I first left her for more than 2 or 3 days.

Perhaps you could put their little cages unlidded inside a bigger, lidded one with the water dispenser, and they could venture out to drink when they are thirsty, and then return to the security of their own little home.

Snakes carry a lot of bacteria on their skin. In water, and with so warm an enviroment it quickly makes the water fouled. I don't know how a cat water dispenser works though. But i think it would only add water wouldn't it?

I've bought a simple flat but heavy water dish. In wich they can bath if they want to (And believe it or not, i saw the little sneak taking a bath this night I've never see them to that before.) And they dig underneath it, but there no way strong enough to move it. So no spilling. Costed 2 bucks.

I set it directly on the bottom, but she still gets her nose under it and lifts it up. I've watched her do it, the little monster.

I want to get her a bigger tank though. So hopefully when I get her some more space I can pick up a larger heavier dish. Besides, she seems quite fond of taking the occassion swim as well, so maybe something she can get her whole body into would be nice.

I know a few people use a plastic dog dish, and cut a hole in the edge so that their snake can use the underside as a hide.

Yep, I do this. i bought a dod dish with handles that are cut out on the rim. Takes a lot of water too, which makes it too heavy to tip.
