Spraying/Misting

Is there any reason why I should mist my tank??? Or is my snake fine in a normal dry room??? (I live in the U.K) Should I mist my tank whilst my snake is shedding??? (I don't have a humidity gague so I don't know the current levels at the moment). Should I buy one and is it a neccesity???

Thanks,

Andy

Yeah i'd advice you to buy one. There very cheap.

If i'm not mistaken a humitidy of 50% is required. imho placing an extra water bowl in the warm eara or providing a 'humidity box' is a better option then misting. Depending on your bedding it may cause molding or bacteria growth.

Corns usually like mid range humidity. It might be good for you to get a humidity gage so that you know what your levels are. As for misting, it really isn't required, but if your snake sheds and it comes off in peices, then you might need to adjust your levels. I usually mist during the shed time for my snakes.

I wouldn't mist every day as this will give the viv moist air, and can cause bacteria and mold to grow.

i live in the u.k also,as jicin said the humidity gauges are cheap, but i find our humidity levels are spot on in the u.k.i've never had any trouble with my snakes having bad sheds.you can quite simply move your snakes water dish a little closer to your warmer side if need be,or as pointed out add a secondary water dish when needed.i agree that over misting can cause mould.found this out years ago myself lol.anyhow don't fret to much i think you'll find things will be o.k. good luck

I've never had to mist any of my corns over here in the UK (let's face it, we get enough damp weather as it is!). Providing a large water bowl that's big enough for the snake to bath in should it want to, works a treat. If, when the snake begins its slough cycle, you want to increase the humidity then move the water bowl over to the warm end of the viv and this will automatically do the job very nicely. Hope this helps.

The land itself may be humid enough but some houses are very 'dry'. If you know what i mean. Here in Holland it's cold enough for the heat to go on again wich can result, depending in what sort of house you live, in very dry air. Perhaps he has an air- condition or something. I don't know what that does with humidity. With a humidity gague you know for sure.
The viv may also be to humid. I had a large waterbowl in a relatively small viv and i would find condence on the glass the next morning o_O

Little note, i never had to mist either and i have perfect sheds. But he asked ;)

Air-condition, airconditioner. Whatever you call it. It's that think that makes your troath and eyes go soar at work and spreads bacteria :)

I wouldn't suggest misting unless you've had a shedding problem. Too much humidity can be unhealthy and cause issues as well.

BTW, a/c doesn't drop humidity. ;)
