I'm so sad - she's gone!

I am just so sick because one of my new hatchlings escaped. I had just gotten 3 babies from (from Carol) on Sat, I set them up in my rack system which is also pretty new, I never imagined they could get out. Then I noticed my cat was looking at something last night and then I heard a tail rattle and when I looked it was my new crimson baby crawling on the carpet, thank god the cat alerted me or I would be missing two hatchlings. Anyway I checked the tubs and the male hypo motley was there but the female motley was gone, I have torn the place apart looking for her but I am afraid she is in the walls of the house or outside because there's a hole where the phone cord comes through behind the rack. I have learned a painful lesson, never ever assume the snake is too big to crawl out of a tiny gap! My two remaining hatchlings are now in 10 gallon tanks with phone books on top of the lids. I wish I could find the other one I am so upset!

I think we've all been in your shoes once or twice. Keep looking, it is usually when you least expect it that they turn up. :)

I had the same problem. I didn't think my hatchlings could get out of my boaphile rack, but they did. My wife caught one going down the stairs and the other hiding in the towel closet.

Since they are hatchlings, they probably won't go far and they will be cold. Put a heating pad our to attract it and try a pinkie in a coke bottle to see if you can find it.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and advice, I will try the pinky in the bottle and I was thinking of braining it to make the smell go further.
Indy yea mine is the boaphile one too I had been keeping a baby in there and she never got out so I thought it would be fine, but she is bigger than my new ones. How the heck do they squeeze out of that tiny little gap is what I don't understand

I do. I noticed that some of the plastic tubs are not quite the same as the others. In a few tubs, there is a gap between the tub and the rack and that's how they get out. I had to buy about six replacement tubs to find ones that fit very snugly against the top of the rack. If the tub slides out too quickly, it's not secure. Use a flashlight to look for gaps or loose tubs. The ones that work for me have to be pulled out, not slid. Once they get bigger, it won't matter since they can't get out of those tubs anymore.

='( Shes Escaped!!

Well i've posted a few things on here about my 6 month old corn Pandora...well the time i've been dreading her first escape...i dunno how she got out her tank..but im so upset that i can't find her...because my bedroom is a converted attcik there is a chance she could have got out and went under the cupboard door into the attick..i just don't know what to do..

Help..

P.S i've still not told my mum! *looks worried* :shrugs:

Sorry to hear about Pandora. I still haven't found mine yet either, it's been so cold if she's still around I think she's brumating. Hope we both find our snakes, sooner or later. Preferably sooner! Good luck, don't stop looking...

words cannot help...

So sorry you've lost your baby.... I'm lucky I'm still displaying parts of my compulsive obsessive disorder - I must check the lid on our tank at least 6 times before I go out the room!

I've got everything crossed for you...

I'm with you, Naeris... wait one second while I go check.......

If your snake has indeed gone into brumation, it probably won't show up until spring. I have read several accounts of this happening (snake escapes in fall, shows up next spring). So don't loose hope as the winter goes on and no sign of a snake, it may just surprise you in the spring.

hope you find your snakes

I'm a bit anal when it comes to Sweetness~alway's checking his lid, I'd totally freak if he got lost. (Not to mention having to explain to a 7 yr old that his snake is gone "shudders") Good luck, hope they show up soon. :)

found a shed from the escapee...

Today I was rearranging some stuff and I found a little shed skin under this file I have that I keep tax stuff, etc in. So at least there is hope, if she shed her skin at some point she must be still around! I looked all over the place again including inside of the file and behind and under every single book and under the bookcase it's on, but no luck... argh!

The bookcase is maybe 5 feet away from the viv, and is used sort of as a room divider. Looked from the shed like she was headed away from her viv.
Sorry about the double post. How do you delete a posting?
