Babies eating prior to shipping?

Wanted: Jasper Co Okeetee
Hey everyone,

I just brought another corn and the breeder said that she was fed the morning she was shipped. (this morn)

My question is, Is this OK? Will she be able to keep the pinky down? Or will I find a mess tomorrow when she arrives?

Just curious...

Thanks!

That is kind of odd that they would ship the day that they've fed....

You very well may find a little surprise and you may not. I'd certainly recommend minimal stress for a week or two.

I agree. I was surprised too. She was supposed to be shipped on Monday but the person had to go out of town for a few days. So he fed her before he shipped her. I hope she is all right when she gets here.... :(

A lot will depend on the weather. How warm is it supposed to be tonight? Make sure it gets proper heat ASAP.

The snake is coming from Miami and I live in PA right outside of Philadelphia. It supposed to go down to 45-50 tonight with a high of 60 here tomorrow.

The tank is already set up to go with the proper temps.

Anything else I should do?

OK...just an update....Now that I am very mad and upset. I emailed the breeder who sent me the snake and said "It should be there by Friday"!!!

WHAT! Are you kidding me! I asked him how the snake was shipped and he said he would give me the tracking number tonight if he could...He said he was on a business trip...

Boy, this is starting to get to me! :realhot:

Has anyone heard of shipping a snake 2 day shipping?

My concern is that I hope he arrives safely tomorrow sometime. I don't think I will be dealing with this dealer again. Another thing is that I have been at home waiting for this snake because I need to sign for it when it arrives....UGH!

Question that needs to be answered.....

1) Did he/she tell you the parcel service and method of shipping?

2) Did the seller actually ship it 2-day or did they still send it overnight, just a day later than they promised?

3) Did you pay for overnight service? If so, I be asking for a refund if it was sent 2-day.

1.) I asked but he didnt say how the snake was being shipped after asking him 3 times.

2.) He said the snake was shipped out yesterday morning but didn't didn't say when it would get here. I spoke with a few references and they said that he was a great shipper and the aniamls arrived healthy and safe.

3) It was just a normal corn that I pd 50.00 total for.

Supposidly the breeder is on a business trip and he is pretty hard to get ahold of!

I hope you get your snake and it's alright. It definitely sounds like the breeder screwed up with not only the shipping, but with deciding to feed right before shipping. They can be pretty resilient, but you will still probably have to deal with a regurg. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Off-topic: In which Newtown, PA do you live? Is it the one in Cambria County? If so, my grandfather's family lives real close to you.

Sorry Quigs! I meant it takes a lot to get a negative reaction out of me.

1. Snake is fed before shipping.
2. Snake was not shipped overnight (or was there a mixup?).
3. The question on how it was shipped was asked 3 times and not answered.
4. Seller is "not available" (understandable, but should have been clarified beforehand in case of emergency).

That kind of stuff I have little tolerance for. *twitch* As for Miami... is that not where the snake is coming from? Stuff happens, but this sounds somewhat careless to me. Not to judge (I'm sure there's a good reason... or at least I hope there is... just going based on what I read).

On a more positive note though, I'm sure the little guy will arrive safely (and hopefully without a regurg) and the seller has some answers for you when he/she returns from the trip. :)

Sorry to hear that you're having a negative experience with a shipped snake.
If there is a problem with you're new snake, I have a hypo corn for you.
Good luck with your new snake. Hope it arrives safely.

UUUGGGHHHHH!!!

First off, thanks for the concerns everyone! It made me feel a little better getting it off my chest!

Secondly, I finally got the snake today! However, guess how it was shipped! I am so mad!

It was shipped by USPS by priority mail! Are you kidding me! It cost him $3.85 to ship him! The snake was in a little rubbermaid tupperware container with pine shedding in there! NO heat packs! NOTHING!!! :realhot:

When you bought the snake did the breeder say it would be $50 total or did he sell it to you for something like $20 + shipping?

I would be furious too. There's no way I'd pay $50 for a normal unless if was Het Bloodred Het Lavender or some such combo.

At least it's alright, right?

Let the hormones rage. (Quigs ;) )

That's just not right... Was there a regurg? He's okay? Poor thing is probably stressed out of his mind. :(

Amanda,

When I purchased the snake from the breeder who listed it on (kingsnake.com) his post was corn snake het for hypo for $50.00 shipped.

So I went in and looked around a few sites for some references from this guy. (he has his own website!) From what I read, it was all good. So, I brought the snake from him on Saturday and he said it would be shipped out Monday morn. I asked him how it would be shipped and he said he uses either Fed Ex or UPS. NOT USPS!

It has been one excuse after another and the guy hasn't responded to an email which I sent out to him on Wednesday!

The bad thing is that this is the first time I ever brought anything like this. Usually I go to a show to buy a reptile. This really leaves a sour taste in my mouth! People like this should not be selling reptiles!

As far as the snake (which I need to have a name for him :) ) he is doing fine. I couldn't believe he was shipped like that with no heat packs thru priority mail! Who knows how many times this poor little guy was banged around. He was cold when I opened the container, I really thought he was dead....

He is very comfy in his new viv!
