i am planing to switch my mice and rats from puppy food to a pelleted diet. my question is "how much does fat and protien content matter?" i went to mazuri.com and looked at the different feeds they have for breeding rodents and the fat content ranges from 6-11% how much does this matter. the feed store i will be ordering from, can give me another kind of feed with 20% protien, 5% fat, 6% fiber, and 8% ash. how much do these matter? and what are your preferences?

I use...

Mazuri Rodent 6F 5M30

Crude protein (min) 16.0%
Crude fat (min) 6.0%
Crude fiber (max) 5.0%

I believe this is what they call a "maintenance diet". They do offer a breeder formula and I am able to order it through a local pet supply distributor/feed mill. They don't stock it, and it was explained to me that it really isn't all that better. It's more expensive and the results are very similar. This is coming from a guy I have known there for years, not just a sales pitch.

I only feed the Mazuri lab blocks, I do not supplement at all. Maybe once in a very great while, I'll drop some high end dog food in each bin, maybe once in 3-6 months. Our does average production is coming right at 12-15 pups in a litter.

Hope that helps a little,
