:: Bob - My Amel ::
Total newbie question coming up.................*brace yourselves*

When will Bob be ready to move into a bigger viv? Here are pics of his current home and also a gauge of his size (no pun intended with the lap picture!). The thing is, he is sooo active and inquisitive, I read somewhere on the forum that the viv should be at least the length of the snake from corner to corner? Bob is over that lol. Have also read the posts about splitting the viv in half etc. My hubby is making a viv but it won't be ready for a few months, just wondered if Bob should have a 'halfway house'. :shrugs:

Any thoughts/comments appreciated!

i would recommend...

at least a ten gallon. they are the least expensive, i got mine for about 12 dollars...if your man is making a viv then you probably don't wanna spend that much money on a large temporary one. i started with a ten gallon and moved to a twenty after a few months. what you have him in now is pretty small and if he's real active it would be good for him to have more space to exercise and explore. you can keep that little enclosure for feeding if you want...or bathing...or moving...or whatever.

Nearis's hubby asking...

hi ...
all i'd like to know is.... is it possible for the viv to be to big?

as i'm in the process of designing a home for bob..

would like bob to have a wonerfull place to dwell...so any advise would be much appreciated

How big are we talking, exactly?

Big is good, but the larger the tank, the more hides you'll need. A snake will get very stressed out in a large area with big open spaces.

cheers mate..but we live in uk lol...what size is a 10 gallon...we have a fish tank which is 30" x 18" x 12" that we could use as a temp home.

also would our heat map be ok for that??

well i thought about 2.5' x 1.5' but this will be a corner design.....

as long as you...

can provide the proper levels of humidity and heat...and put in enough hides and all that good stuff i think you can go with whatever size you desire, but if you're going for real big so you can have multiple snakey-poos in one enclosure...i'd think twice and go for multiple enclosures, one for every snake. they will fight...or argue (haha...not)...or eat eachother.

this will only be for one snake ..bob... will be making this out of wood..so what about heat...would a heat lamp be preferable? ( obv with a cover)

sidenote...

you said "cheers!" that's awesome. i'm from nj, but i do a lot of british drama. i've added "cheers, mate" to my vocabulary. haha...you rock.

lol... well i've never had someone say that before..i rock ..nice one!! ( add that too)

you might wanna...

think about a lamp though for the UV effect, it's good for snakies, but i'm not exactly sure what to recommend, someone else can give you guidance on that one or you can do a search for lighting and heating. i also say..."bloody" a lot. "why isn't the bloody telly ringing, mate, i'm expecting that blonde bird to call me." my favorite british slang word which i use ALL the time is...wanker. woah, i need to go home and start my weekend, i am way too loopy right now.

so if I have a ten galon tank and i do not have any thing in his tank. I should go out and hind something to put into his tank so he does not get to strested out and he will be more happy he is only a babby i do not want him hurt.

heat issues

Have just discussed with bodget about the move etc. Think it would be best to put Bob straight into the new viv (when he decides to build the bloomin' thing) as don't want to move Bob too much and also don't want to have to buy diff kit etc. that we can't use in the permanent viv.

What's the best heat for the corner viv - pad or lamp? Would rather use a lamp.
