Best Thaw Method???

I was just wondering what the best method of thawing is for frozen Mice/Rats... When I do have to thaw, I usually just run under Hot Water until completely thawed, but was wondering if anyone has tried the microwave thing, I usually feed live prey, but sometimes end up with one that's not hungry at that particular time so end up freezing that rodent for future use, any input would be appreciated here, Marshall P..

Yes someone tried the microwave thing. It exploded... :)

The topic is still active. You may want to look that one up for thawing methods.

I put the mouse in a zip-lock baggie, squeeze out all the air (this is important so it doesn't float too much) and then drop that into a pot of REALLY hot water until it's thawed. I imagine you could also run the baggie under hot water, but then you have stand there, kind of a waste of time. But using a baggy is great because then the mouse stays dry.

I'm not an expert, but I would think that you would have to be careful about microwaving because microwaving creates hot spots--it heats unevenly. You would have to let it cool awhile before feeding--giving bacteria a chance to grow, also you run the risk of parts of the mouse being cooked and I would think that is just not as nutritious as completely raw.

this is wot i did, put the mouse ina cup of kettle water unprotected for like 5 mins, never again !
ther was a cut in the side of him and all his guts came out, the smell was unbelievably, but wen in the tank, the snake went CRAZY for him and constricted huis dead ass

lol .... :sidestep:

I just use a coffee cup and fill it with hot water from the tap. I put the mouse in it and wait until it's completely warm. If it's a large adult, I may have to add more hot water as the cold mouse will cool it. I haven't had any of mine refuse one yet.
