one hide...

is one hide in a ten gallon tank enough? i have a piece of drift wood and some moss and leaves as well. i have two hides right now, but i'm afraid my hatchling is going to get stuck in the top of the tree...he likes to slither up there and curl up, but he's on two pinks at each meal now. he continues to seek refuge up there, but i'm getting a little concerned. i thought about filling the inside with cement so that he no longer can get so far up. also...he's in hiding most of the time now because i can't get him when he's up there. i've been feeding him on the carpet. i use tongs and reach in with the mouse and pull out as he starts to go after it, but as soon as he finishes he returns to his shelter. he's perfectly fine, just comfortable in his tree, i don't wanna take it away, but i want him to be more active and i don't want him to get stuck!!

Seems mine are all most active when the lights are off...

I have a couple of tanks with only one actual "hide"...but lots of other stuff for them to climb under or on top of...

Fake fern branches work great...especially for my juveniles...they love to crawl under them...anything that will conceal them shoud work...especially if you have a substrate that allows them to burrow...

I have a juvenile snow in half of a divided 40 gal that has three hides and 4 or 5 pieces of fake fern...he prefers to dig himself in under the water dish...
Go figure.

yea...my snow used...

to go to under the water dish, too, but i switched substrates for a while and it was no longer easy to do. i'm gonna switch back to aspen. i'll probably just get rid of the tree hide and replace it with a new one after xmas. rumor has it i'm getting lots of petco gift certificates :) word!

Love Gift certificates!!

I have a bunch of hides in both my cages too. But both of them love going under the water dish.

Personally I'd go for at least three hides - one each at the hot and cold ends and one in the middle, so that he can thermoregulate and keep feeling secure. I tend to stuff as many different hides in as I can. Gift certs sound like the ideal way forward - wish I could persuade my family to buy me snake-related presents!

Talked my NON-reptile loving wife...into two new racks for christmas this year...

Good thing she doesn't know about the big crate of snakes soon to follow!!
(Really...already paid for and waiting for the racks...lol)

I like lots of hides too...at least a couple...most of my display cages have habba hut and driftwood...plus some scattered silk fern fronds.
And all my juvenile cages also have a paper towel tube cut in half (about the size of a toilet paper tube) with a hole cut in the center of the side...and a partial piece of paper towl inside for them to curl up with...
They all use multiple hides...and they all LOVE the tubes.
Not the prettiest...but definitely their favorite.
