I Have Cats...

Hello Ginger! I have cats, and they like to sit by my snakes' enclosures to watch them. My snakes never seem stressed by this. Maybe they know that the cats can't get to them? I think that as long as the cats aren't trying to get into the snake's enclosure, then you'll be fine having both.

I've also got 2 cats. They like to sit on top of the screen lids of the snake cages and just stare and stare at the snakes. Some of them aren't too stressed by it but a few are, so I try to keep the kitties away from the room where the snakes are unless I can keep an eye on them.

I have a 200+ lb English Mastiff (named Moose)and my friend always bring over his 8ft red tail boa.. My dog ALWAYS seems curious..but is scared by the snake (dont know why)..than again he is deathly afraid of my neighbors Maltese.. For as big as he is.. he is pretty mellow but easily scared..so..who knows..But as long as you monitor behavior (play nice kids) I think you should be okay..But than against you make be asking for trouble..Depends on the pet I guess..Good luck

Hi Ginger,
I would never let the cats in the same room if I had the snake out. It could be lunch for them or at least a great toy to smack around.
I guess it would depend on the snake, some may get stressed out haveing a cat watching them some may not.
I would be carefull.

I wonder how my cats will react to my new arrival. There's my psycho cat who's really curious and gets into lots of trouble. He is definitely staying out of my room. Then there's my 11 year old cat who just lies around. I don't think he would care, but I guess I won't know until I get my corn.

Cats and Snakes

How heavy are your cats?
One of my 5 cats sat on the screen top of my tarantula cage and fell in.

But otherwise dont worry the cats and the snake won't bother each other.

I also had a parrot and had to get rid of it because it stressed my cats. If your snake doesn't stand up against the glass much than the snake and cats won't stress each other.

I guess I should have mentioned...

...that my cats can't get to my snakes because my snakes are all in rubbermaid enclosures. I used to have my snakes in aquariums, but several factors caused me to change to a rack system. One of those factors being that one of my cats liked to get on top of the screen. I was always afraid she would fall through. Other reasons include...easier sheds and the rack takes up less room! Anyway, I think that if you keep a close eye on ALL of your animals, then you should be fine. If any of them seem to be stressed by the other animals, then simply try to keep them apart.
