Ok, I have a new Motley Corn and this is my 3rd herp. I have a red tail boa and use to have a ball python. Anyway - I was just curious about some behaviorial things of little Lucius. I tried to pick him up this morning and after trying to get him out from under the newspaper he freaked and started twirling in my hand, then after I put him back down, he hissed at me!! I know that most of this is just the fact that he is still very little but I was just covering all the bases. Thanks.

Don't worry at all.

Corn snakes are known to be one of the most gentle snakes around. Most of these snakes are a little more aggressive and defensive at first so it's alright to let it hiss and maybe even nip at you.

Once it gets used to you it should calm down much more and wont be afraid of you anymore.

Note this is one most of the corn snakes that I have seen or owned. I have owned at least 30 + corn snakes before. There is this one little milk snake phase corn snake that would never calm down. Even when I touch the surounding evironment....it strikes at me......that little thing thinks that everything around it is trying to eat it or something....but anyway most of them will calm down. With more handling and time, you little guy sounds like that it will calm down very soon. My gal has been bitting me since the first day I have her.....and she is still doing that even after 3 months.....most calm down within a month or so....

Good Luck and Happy Herping!

hissing?
Cool! I've never had any one of mine hiss at me. They've buzzed their tails and coiled up as if to strike at me but they were just bluffing, the sweet things. :) I love corns.
