i wonna say yes but those paper towels suck! they have them at my school and you have to use 5 just to fry ur hands. and theyd probably mold
 
Aspen is DEFINITELY the way to go...sorry I should have mentioned that in my post...it is all I use. I figured you had your heart set on brown paper towels (LOL)...actually, I figured you needed to use it for a quick fix.
And it WILL work...if it must...you really don't even have to shred them...just lay them out.
 
Newspaper is hard to beat. Cheap to free, and almost all print shops use soy ink now.
 
do you just lay the n.paper in there? or do you prep it some way (shredding,etc.)?
 
no shredding needed

Just fold it to fit. They will likely tunnel under it, but a right sized cave or tube will usually help keep them (and their defications) on top where you want them.
