When he srikes at his dead mice he just:
-shakes his tail like a rattle snake
-bites and lets go
-and his breating rate goes up

Is that what he should do to frozen thawed mice? He eats them overnight off the floor of his feeding container.

He is exhibiting defensive behavior.

Your snake is a little scared or nervous and therefore treats the foreign object (the pinkie) as an intruder. Remember, you are grabbing the snake, removing him from his home, shoving him into a strange container, and thrusting a meal at him. How would you react?? :eek1:

As long as the snake is eating, there isn't anything to worry about. ;)

Exactly....and since it smells like his favorite food well.....thus the striking! No need to worry.

As mentioned, his striking is defensive in nature not "I'm going to kill this mouse".

quick question, are you watching him when he does this?

Nope, I have no Idea where Reptile Addict lives. :shrugs:

(Man, not having the chat room up is forcing me to take the cheap shot jokes like that..... :noevil: )

always the joker. Seriously, my snakes have the tendency to rattle if i look in on them whlie they're eating. They feel vulnerable b/c their mouths (only means of defense) are preoccupied.
