Sure ya can, just make sure it is coated with a dark film or the glass itself has some type of pigment. Alot of the "party" lights will emit alot of light with is a bad thing if your using it for night time heating... A small heat emitter would be better in my opinion.
i use a 4-50 watt bulb so at to get the light without much heat. I found that 75w and up will give a good deal of heat in my tank. I use a 36"x18"x18" breeder tank.
make sure that the bulb is made of red glass, not a red coating. I've had problems with day/night schedules being interrupted because the coating just put off too much light, and not enought heat.
