is there something that attracts a corn to rest on top of a wooden hide? well here it is, on the warm side of my viv, there is a hide, a wooden one, and a UTH under it and a daytime bulb on well, during the day, well this was at night, at my corn was resting on top of the warm side hide, just coiled up on it. But the thing is that the lamp wasnt' on, so there was no direct heat, and she was on top of the hide, so the UTH wouldnt be warming her up, so i was wondering if hides keep warmth or something, or if she was still getting warmth from the UTH's heat raising up or is it too hot under that hide? I don't know, anyway, thanks.

The heat from the UTH still radiates up.

It could be that your snake was on top of the hide because the surface temps were too warm. What is the temp on top of the substate in the warm end?

Mine too

One of mine does the same, but I just assumed that it was getting away from the heat on the floor of the viv as Cav has mentioned. I do not think its too hot though, plus I keep a couple of inches of bedding. I just assumed it was her preference and have not given it too much thought to it. I find the temps of my viv differ depending where the probe is, if it is over the UTH then it is a little too warm, but then if it is not over that area, it is too cool. I just assume she can find the temp she needs. If I am looking at this wrong, someone let me know, but I have had no problems with her thus far.

well lately (until I get some kind of dimmer you guys are talking about or something else) I've been keeping my UTH off during the day since I have a lamp on during hte day, and then UTH on at night, I'd like to keep it on 24/7, and have something else regulate it for me. anyway, under the hide it was like 90 or somethign, once I checked it it was like 92, I thought it was too hot, so I added some substrate, but not enogh, because once I evened it all out, it was like pretty much puttling a centimeter of substrate on top, so I think I'll add like another inch or soemthing.

It does sound a little warm, but if you only turn it on at night, it might not be too much. Depends on what the climate in your area is. You can just get an infrared night buld and eliminate the uth all together as well.
