hi i was wondering would it be ok if i put a heat mat inside a glass viv and cover it with news paper so my corn doesnt get direct contact with the heat mat? because im getting a new viv very soon and its going to be all glass so im not sure on how to put the heat mat in, have any of you got any better suggestions?.
thanks
sam.

Heat mats do not go into the tank, they go underneath. A good layer of aspen bedding keeps the snakes from direct contact (unless of course they borrow underneath).
Please do not spam other threads...It is rude...

They are not meant to be put inside. Read the directions. They are supposed to be placed beneath the glass.

blckkat the heat mat's used in the UK can go eather inside the viv or outside depending on the viv material (glass or wooden viv). Sam if your using a glass viv then underneath is better with a ceramic plate between the glass and the heat mat to help prevent cracking. If it's a wooden viv with sliding doors then the heat mat goes inside on the floor.

I find the VERY unusual. Heat mats present a threat to the occupant when placed inside. Their should ALWAYS be something stationary making a water tight seal over the heating object to prevent electric shock and fire hazard. I would never simply put a heating element inside a cage. Since the most commonly used heating elements are ReptiTherm heat mats (which you can find at basically any US pet store), the poster should have clarified the product they were asking about. Further more, heat mats (at least in the US) go UNDERNEATH a glass viv.

Sam, you've asked this same question on another forum and received numerous replies which you obviously didn't like because you want to place the mat inside of the viv regardless...
Placing newspaper on top of the mat will do no good whatsoever as your snake will crawl beneath.

I know Tanya i was just trying to get as many peoples opinions as ican, to see wich most people would go for. I want whats best for my snake, i dont care where the hetmat goes as long as he's safe.

If you are not concerned where the heat mat goes, then do the safest thing. Place it BENEATH the glass. I really don't understand all the discussion on a simple task such as a heat mat. Did it not come with instructions???

If you have the option to put the uth on the outside of the cage than thats that way to go! Putting it inside is possible but is more work than it is with if you can do it another way...
