Heating problems

I bought my first cornsnake today. I have wanted one every since i found a wild adult in my yard one day when i lived in GA. There are the coolest looking snakes i have ever seen.

I have put my baby cornsnake in a 10 gallon aqaurium, with a water bowl, some repti bark, and a couple of paper towel holders for hidding places. I bought an four paws nature's heat under tank dry heater. I also bought a flukers terrarium gauge combo pack with the thermometer and hygrometer. My humidity is 80 but i cant get the temp above 75. I have the Thermometer just kinda barely stuck in the substrate centered on the heater.

I have never owned a snake i do own turteles both land and and aquatic. I stuck a heat lamp on the tank but it over heated it with a 50w bulb and i dont have an night bulb. Help me figure out how to adjust them temp up with the under tank heater.

First of all I would order Kathy Love's Corn Snake Manual

Secondly, you shouldn't have to use both a lamp and an under tank heater(this is why its overheating). The snake should do fine with just the UTH(just make sure that it doesn't get any higher than 85 or so).

What is the temp on the cool side(assuming you have a cool side and a warm side)?

I've found that if you want it warmer, just remove some of the substrate that's on top of the UTH.

Third, I think that the humidity level seems a bit high, you might consider trying to lower that to somewhere around 40-60. If you leave the humidity up too high for an extended time, you could cause respiratory probs.

I am now only using the UTH. I havent added any water thats the humidity with the substrate right out of the bag. I havent checked the cool side yet. But i just transfered the thermometer to that side. AS soon as i put the new baby in the tank it borowed itself and i havent see it since.

Wrangler seems to be doing okay. I fed him for the first time today. The care sheets say to take out of the tank and feed in a diffent location so I did. Is this really needed. Cant i just place a container in the cage with the meal in it? They say not to handle after eating but you still have to pick up to place back in cage. Is a meal needed once or twice a week. I have heared both. I finally got the temp right in the tank. Thanks DdotSpot.

the reason you should feed in a difrent location is so that it doesnt associate your hand with feeding, so if it associates ur hand with food it will nipp at your fingers bitting you and stuff. and not handleing it after it feed just means that dont play with it, just picking it up to placeing it in its tank wont cause it to regurg. i saw something that said the regurg to move faster so when you handle them, for them to move comfortably they regurg there food so that the lump doesnt hinder there movment. i hope i helped :cheers: :wavey:

Makes sense. Altough i didnt see much of a lump in wrangler after he ate. But the pinky was gone.
