Opinions on buying frozen feeders online?

I knew you could order mice online but never gave it serious thought until I noticed a link on a herp website for an online frozer feeder company. The local petshop where I live sells adult mice for $1.50 ea which seems rediculous compared to 50 cents ea. from some of these websites (bag of 50 mice for $25). Even with shipping, it would be cheaper in the long run to order the mice online. My problem is, the smallest quantity I've seen for buying adult mice is 50, but I only have one corn who eats one mouse per week. So, basically, one bag is a year's supply of food for her. Will frozen mice keep for that long? Or will they become too freezer-burned, etc, before then? Also, I'd appreciate recommendations for frozen breeder sites that are reliable and sell quality feeders. Thank you very much!

Bid Cheese Rodents sells adults in 25 per bag at $.50 each. To reduce shipping you may what to find a breeder near you. At most places the product is vacuum packed and its suppose to last a one to two years unopened in the freezer. Other places to buy from is Rodent Pro, Mouse Factory, and many others.

Yes, an open package of frozen mice will get freezer burn.

Some companies vacuum seal some don't.

Maybe you could buy a 50 pack and upon arrival repackage them in smaller quanities? Say 5 of 10 per package. I've even heard of at least one supplier that has even done this for certain people, if you ask about it.

I raise my own prey but I have done business with Big Cheese Rodent in the past and they are great! Chad is a really nice guy, his product and service is superior to his competitors, no doubt in my mind!

You could always go to a local reptile show and purchase frozen mice at similiar prices as online. You just don't have to pay the shipping!

How about finding a fellow herper in your area and sharing a pack of mice? I've had very little trouble with freezer burn, mainly pinkies looking a little white in places and losing a tail, a leg or two.... and + it's more a cosmetic and texture thing that really doesn't have nutritional ramifications on the eater...good luck

Look around and see if you can find a local herper who raises their own (I sell my extras for $.25/each), or someone local to split a bag with, or even a local show to buy them without the shipping hassle/extra cost.

I'm with Quigs, I raise my own now but have done business in the past with Big Cheese Rodent Factory. Their quality is top-notch all around and I really like the vacuum packing aspect. Anyone can toss mice in a Ziplock. =P

And I also agree in that Chad is a pretty good guy, drop him an e-mail and explain your situation and ask if they could vacuum pack the mice in 5 per bag for ya.

I've asked for a 100 lot order of mouse pinks to be packed 25 per bag, and they did it for me for no extra charge. No sense in buying a "brick" of mouse pinks and half of them go bad before I can use them.

Let us know how you fare..

That'd be perfect if they could vaccum pack them in groupings of 5. I'll see if that'll work out first. Thank you all for the great advice! I really appreciate it. And Annabelle will, too. ;)

I dont rightly know about tha cost you might get charged but cheap sealers can usually be found at Wally World in tha kitchen section. Lotta good herpin stuff at WalMart. ;)

I have 50 frozen mice on their way for only $44 w/ shipping and they're going to vaccum package them in groups of 10. That's almost 50% less than what I'd end up paying at the local pet place (over a year). Whew.. Thank you all very much again! This worked out most excellently.

Glad we could be of help.

Let us know how they look and what you think of when you get them.

well..

I called to check on my order to make sure it'll be here before I leave town again, and it turns out they forgot to vaccum pack the mice in groups of 10. Before I could say a word, Chad said they had already credited my account for the FULL cost of the order so I'd get this batch of 50 completely free! Their impressive customer service just bought my business for next time I need food for Annabelle. :) So many businesses I've dealt with have deplorable customer service, so when one goes the extra mile (on their own!) it's just... wonderful. Haha.. seriously, I have customer service horror stories out the wazoo. Anyway, I digress. Thank you again for the great recommendation!

I wish-wish-wish I'd done that back in December. I didn't know I'd be feeding pinkies 3 mos. later at a whopping $2 each. At this rate, I may still go that route! Especially after your great customer service story! That's fabulous! I've got a ways to go before the mice make successful babies for me! Although, Mr. Survivor is sure doin' HIS thing! :spinner:

Jujube-

Sorry to hear about the misfortune but I told you Chad Martin is awesome! He may be slightly higher priced but he is one hell of a guy. And his rodents are clean and healthy looking.

Glad to hear something positive came of this.

Good luck.
