Line Voltage Thermostat

Has anybody used a line voltage thermostat to control their UTH?

I was looking at options for thermostats and those $150 helix ones are out of the budget. Home Depot has rite temp line voltage thermostats (heat only) for $16 (<a href="http://www.ritetemp.info/rt/Menu_46.html">seen here</a>). I was wondering if it's as simple as splicing the power cord and connecting the thermostat.

Thanks

Looks like they work off ambient air temperature so it wouldn't be good for controlling a UTH. Whatever you go with will have to get measurements off the floor/substrate or UTH to prevent overheating. Check the The Bean Farm (http://www.beanfarm.com/temperature/1.html) or
Big Apple Herp (http://www.bigappleherp.com/Reptile_Supplies/Product/Electronic_BAH_Series_Thermostats_924105.html) for some popular thermostats ($27-$33)

The stat you are looking at will not work unless you put it in the cage with the snake. What you need is a T-stat with a probe on it. I am not telling you this ok. Go to Graingers there are two locitions in S.A.. One on Rittaman and one on 410 West. The T-stat you need is Item#3ZP77 -- Cat#3457 -- Ranco ETC-1110000-000. Price is $59.75. Then you need a 14awg cord with ground. Then all you have to do is wire it up. If you e-mail me I can send you info on that to. OR you can do it the easy way and buy one all ready done from MG Repites for $85.00. Hope this helps.
